Chair Exercises Helps Me to Keep Moving and Keep Losing Weight

On February 1st , 2008 I weighted in at a whooping 307.4 pounds. My weight was and I suppose to some degree still is negatively affecting the quality of life. In particular, I was in pain all the time. My knees, back and hip hurt to the point that it was difficult to walk at all.

Then my husband saw an infomercial for Michael Thurmond's 6 week body make over. I lost 70 pounds. I am still a work in progress and you can find out more about that part of my journey at the lens My Weight Loss Journey

One of the issues I have faced in losing weight is finding a way to exercise that did not hurt and that was okay with my chiropractor. Her directive was "If it hurts, do not do it." And Michael Thurmond recommend walking 30 minutes a day. I could not walk 5 minutes without being in agony much less 30. And I was (and am) determined to whatever was necessary to get healthy.

That determination has lead me to making this lens. Water exercise is great for you if you have a lot of weight to lose. In fact, that is what I did for the 1st 35 pounds that I lost. And then I got laid off from my job. Water walking and aerobics was just not in budget.
So what to do? Chair exercise!

Exercise with YouTube

Chair exercise also known as chair aerobics is perfect for anyone who has trouble standing on their own or has difficulty balancing. It will help you get in shape and stay in shape.

Chair exercises can increase your strength, balance and vitality all while sitting down. They create movement, stretching, and help increase your heart rate. Thus It increases your metabolism, energy levels and alertness without worrying about aching bones and joints

Each exercise involves a series of slow movements. Research has shown that those suffering from chronic illnesses benefit from exercise, even if it is while sitting in a chair. Chair exercises allow you to get in shape sitting down

Sometimes when I am tempted to stop exercising, I find it helpful to remember the benefits of what I am doing.

In this case, the benefits of chair exercises include

  1. improved vitality and range of motion
  2. Pain relief
  3. Cognitive improvement
  4. Increased circulation
  5. Increased muscle strength

So I went in search of chair exercises routines. I found over 14 YouTubes videos that were long enough to actually use in short workouts.

These three videos add up to about 15 minutes of movement and 95 additional calories burned. They are easy to follow along with and encouraging. I started out doing one resting and then doing another.

What I used to release 70 pounds

(and counting)

Yep, I said "Release not lose"

A friend, in one of the online support group said, "I want to release XX number of pounds, not lose them. Because everytime I lose something I seem to spend a lot of time, trying to find it." So now, I release weight ;-) and am getting healthy.
