How to Make Pool & Patio Chair Pads
This is a quick & inexpensive method for sewing your own chair pads for your pool and patio outdoor furniture.
Using double-sided pre-quilted cloth allows the cushions to look great from the back of the chair as well as the front and lets you mix and match the 2 patterns simply by turning the pads over. This also allows you to hide stains in a hurry !
But , speaking of stains, don't worry ! Just toss your pads into yor washing machine !
Adding the corner ties is optional, but I recommend it, as the pads are light-weight and could blow off in a strong wind.
Materials
Makes 2 chair pads
- 1/2 yard double sided pre-quilted fabric, 43" (or more) wide.
- matching thread.
- 1/2 yard (or 2 fat quarters) plain colored coordinating fabric for binding and chair ties.

Assembly
Cut the quilted fabric to fit the chair seat.I cut mine long enough to drape over the front edge of the seat, but short enough to be able to be used as a seat-back cover as well.
My fabric was 43" inches wide, so cutting it in half produced two 21.5" X 18" pieces. 18" was just right to fit my chair width.
Binding and Ties
Cut the plain fabric into 2.5" strips.Ties:
Fold & iron 4 strips in half, lengthwise.
Open the fold, then fold each side in to meet at the center line. Press. Fold in again along center fold, press.
Cut each strip into 4 equal pieces.
Whip stitch the open side and ends of the 16 ties.
Binding:
Pin the ties in place (2 at each corner).
Bind the edges of the pad as you would a quilt.
