This Cloude Exective Chair is one of the most popular overweight chairs on this webpage! Here's what one happy customer had to say:
"Received chair in two days. this chair was very easy to assemble, took less than 20 minutes. I have seen other reviews for other chairs where the arms broke, and I can say with all certainty that this will never happen with this chair the arms are made with heavy thick metal. Overall the chair is very solidly built and will last a long, long time. The chair is very padded but overall it is a very firm chair."

Amazon Price: $318.50 (as of 02/11/2012)![]()
If you prefer armless computer chairs, then this is the perfect solution. The Big and Tall Armless Desk Chair offers weight support for up to 400 lbs. along with adjustable back height and tilt. The fabric used is stain resistant and the wheels are designed for use on carpet.
What to Look for in a Sturdy Office Chair
If you weigh over the 200 lbs that most office chairs are rated for, you are going to need to really take a look at the construction of the sturdy office chair- Armrests. Is the chair wide enough to allow you to sit comfortably, without feeling squashed by the arm rests?
- Back. Does the back feel comfortable or is it wobbly?
- Wheels. Are the wheels well made and do they roll easily even when your full weight is in the chair?
- Materials. Plastic tends to crack easily. If the chair is made of metal, make sure the important parts are, too. This means the legs and back support should be metal.
- Padding. Heavier people compress the seat more, so is it going to be comfortable for hours at a time?
- Adjustments. A good office chair should be able to be adjusted as needed and it should NOT be a hassle to do this.
Choose your chair very carefully. Those made for larger people are going to be more expensive in general, because they are better built. Consider it a worthy investment, since you will save on buying cheaper chairs several times a year!

Would You Pay for a Sturdy Office Chair?
The overweight chairs on this page tend to be a bit pricier than the average, run-of-the-mill office chairs . . . would you ever consider buying one?
Would you pay more for a sturdier computer chair?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byYes, it's worth every penny!
GrammaLinda says:
Absolutely! As an essential tool in my office, the office chair must be sturdy and comfortable.

Hunter A. says:
Yes I would, because I weigh about 320lbs. I've found that the other chairs I buy end up broken in 3 months or the seat padding gets compressed too easily and it feels like you're sitting on a board after about a week of being at the PC for 12+ hours a day. I DEFINITELY would pay extra.

hmm my mom's office chair had broke, and she was so sad when it happened. So i'm planning on getting her a replacement. So yes I would pay extra for my mommy ha:)

I do pay more for a better chair, not because of weight, but for comfort and ergonomics.

Martin R.B. says:
Yes, If I was sure that superior planning and craftsmanship went into it... Companies will make a chair cheaply expecting you to come back and buy another soon. They pander to your feelings of wanting something that isn't broken yet.

NancyOram says:
Yes I would. My chair has held up for ten years now and eight to 12-hour days at the computer.

Mark J. says:
What difference does it make what I would pay for an office chair? My company expects everybody to be fine with the chairs they purchase, and make no allowances for overweight, back problems, etc. For home use yes, I bought a nice office chair for my 300 lb frame, but at the office I just suffer in the crap they buy.

I need one with a taller back - they all arch too soon for tall people.

Yes, when you spend so much of the day sitting on the same chair at your desk, it needs to be a good quality chair.

Karay says:
I purchased a top-of-the-line Aeron mesh chair when I was about 210 lbs. Now I am 250 lbs. The seat frame cracked and the replacement part costs more than one of the heavyweight chairs you recommend. (North of $200.)
I would be happier if there was a heavily cushioned model with a head rest. I am 6'4" and my neck can get fatigued without support.

Starrrana says:
Yes - my only problem is most chairs are made for Big and TALL - so my feet don't touch the ground which causes back issues even with a foot rest.
Posted May 23, 2011
No, I can't afford that.
Tolovaj says:
Good quality is worth the money, but higher price doesn't always guarantee the quality. I am light weighted fortunately, so chair is not too big problem.

BradL says:
my first chair I broke the arms off, then the back, then using it as just a stool I got sick of the back-aches. Tried a more durable chair - not a "computer" chair at all, but found that after a few months I had made it wobble. Central Pivot designs (like all those above) don't seem to last. This lead me to look into deeper chair constructions.
I've quit looking, and just made my own. Reinforced all the parts I made wobble, used steel on all the main parts, and now looking to get some mesh for the back lining (because it helps with the heat issues).
Chairs similar were too expensive, building it myself has put it at material cost + time, which since my time isn't a factor for this (instead of 8 hours in front of the PC, its 8 hours workin on the chair) it's really just materials.. which have come in under $80

Chris E. says:
A toss-up. I'm 110 pounds overweight and the only problem I have with mine is that the seat keeps dropping down on me while I'm doing delicate work (I'm an artist). Though I think I need a chair for overweight/obese people like me, I really can't afford it at this point.

why cant they make a afordable chair that holds up . most heavy people dont have the money to pay or an expensive chair. every thing cost more for us, so if there was a nice comfortable, suportive chair for less than 200 i think u would sell a lot of chairs.

I did and the chair is still made poorly It's bigger and wider but it is not sturdier!

Do It For Your Health
No, I'm not going to preach about losing weight . . . I'm hardly the person to do that since I spend around 12-18 hours sitting at my desk every day! BUT, there are a few things you can do to make sure you stay healthy while working in your new sturdy office chair.Get up and walk. Even if you just move around the room, go to the bathroom, etc. you will be the better for it. Studies have shown that death and illness due to strokes caused by blood clots can be caused by sitting too long. This isn't just for us heavy folks, even if you're at your ideal weight, you shouldn't sit for more than an hour. Even the best computer chair in the world can't help you with that! And, since I recently lost a friend to a blood clot, I know just how dangerous they can be . . . so just get up and move once in a while!
Drink some water. Oh, that coffee (in my case, diet Coke) is SO tempting, especially when you spend long hours in your office chair staring at a computer screen. But, our bodies need normal water in order to function properly and trust me, you do NOT want to experience the kidney infection that can be brought on by ingesting too many sodas! To make sure you keep your water intake up, invest in a nice water bottle
Look away from the screen. Ever feel like your eyes are stinging and full of sand after a long day at the computer? That's not good. But much of the damage that we do to our eyes by staring at a fixed distance is done without any symptoms at all! Make a point of looking away and focusing your gaze on objects both near and far every 15-20 minutes. If you have kids, they are perfect for making sure your eyes get the exercise they need as your little one hurls past at breakneck speed.
Take care of yourself . . . don't just buy the new computer chair for overweight people and expect it to solve everything!

- Those heavy weight chairs have got to be great for people that are very tall, too. I know a person that isn't overweight but he is hard on furniture because he is a tall person. Computer chairs lose a bit of strength rather quickly it seems. People that don't weigh 200 pounds or more may want to invest in one of these chairs.

- I have never had a chair to break while sitting in it. I am not the thinest person either. But I do always read the wt. limit before sitting in a chair or purchasing a chair. Great job. Blessed by the SquidAngel of Home Furniture. Featured on Home and Garden SquidAngel.
