I've stayed at a chalet in the Rocky Mountains. I love them. The alpine look is charming, and I love geraniums.

A mountain chalet would definitely be my dream home. I once took a trip that included a tour of small towns in the Alps and I was charmed by the homes there. It was winter when I was there so I didn't get to see all those beautiful geraniums. Maybe one day I'll have a chance to visit in the summer.

Nice! I was surprised how light and airy the inside of the modern chalet looks like!

    Hello, thanks for sharing!

I certainly don't own one! My brother was born in the... well, we always referred to it as the chalet, but it was in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the US. I was born in the big house which had a patio in the center and the rest of it built in a square around. I believe my father designed both. Lovely lens

Hello we just stayed in a fantastic Hotel , with amazing views of the Swiss Alps. It was modern chalet style with lots of traditional bits as well . The rooms all have balconies with incredible views of the Alps and the bluer than blue lake below . The ownners are a swiss and Australian couple so super friendly and helpful. The villiage of Beatenberg is about as true Swiss as you can get .. Chocolate Box stuff and just 20 minutes from Interlaken . The website for Hotel Gloria is www.hotel-glori.ch CHECK IT OUT ! SO LOVELY

These are all fabulous! I hope you do have your own chalet in the alps someday soon. It would be wonderful to wake to such breath taking beauty each day. I happen to love geraniums too :)
  • WordCustard Jul 19, 2010 @ 2:40 am | delete
They are such cheerful flowers, aren't they? Thanks for visiting!
  • Mahogany Feb 19, 2010 @ 1:01 am | delete
Chalets ARE beautiful, I can see why you miss them N :).

It was a great tour and, though I won't be moving to a place where an
interior chalet motif would "fit", I still took away a fantastic
decorating tip - the use of clumping geraniums together.

I doubt they'd grow well in the tropics, but I can pull from the theme
still, using a similarly beautiful plant type (and also use the fact
that I have a balcony to plant trailing varieties).
  • WordCustard Feb 19, 2010 @ 4:43 am | delete
Tropical flowers are gorgeous, and you have a balcony too! It's going to look beautiful.
  • Mahogany Feb 19, 2010 @ 10:54 am | delete
Well, some. I mean, there's generally a lot of green, green, green, and then more green that's easy to grow here. But yeah, it IS nice being able to put a balcony to use (that's where I grow my chili peppers from the lens I still haven't gotten around to *sigh* finishing yet).

I imagine Scotland's also good for growing things - considering my image of Scotland's very very green too (just in a different way to S'pore, of course).
  • WordCustard Jul 19, 2010 @ 2:41 am | delete
Ah yes, plenty of rain to keep everything green! I have been growing my own vegetables and they have done even better than expected, so it does have its advantages. :)
  • Mahogany Jul 19, 2010 @ 4:34 am | delete
And how do they weather the winters?
  • WordCustard Jul 19, 2010 @ 4:56 am | delete
Very badly! It will be a case of starting all over again come the spring. We had snow in April this year so that can be quite late. I just have to make the most of the short summer.
  • Mahogany Jul 19, 2010 @ 7:10 am | delete
I'd assumed they generally don't do too well in the winter, but the optimist in me was hoping that they have a bit of, I don't know, "hibernation" (for lack of a better way to put it) in them as a survival mechanism. But even a natural cycle of resting during the cold months isn't a match for global warming screwing with weather patterns. At least the practice helps for the growth of the following year :).

During all the time that I lived on that side of the Atlantic, I never made it to the Alps. Looking through your lens makes me wish I did. One day, maybe :)
  • WordCustard Feb 7, 2010 @ 11:56 am | delete
I hope you get back there. But you have some gorgeous mountain ranges in N. America too.

Wonderful tour of chalets in the Swiss Alps for someone who will never be able to see it in person. A charming style of home, plus a gorgeous view. Must be wonderful to experience it.
  • WordCustard Feb 7, 2010 @ 11:54 am | delete
Thank you, Pat! Like so much in life, it's something you can take for granted until it's not there any more.
  • prosperity66 Feb 7, 2010 @ 8:05 am | delete
Wow! I love this page! I love chalets... eh, don't like mountains but love chalets? How's that possible? Well, I love the Ardens and they have splendid chalets too! Chalets are warm, cosy and that's all what I'm looking for in a house!
    Dom.
  • WordCustard Feb 7, 2010 @ 11:54 am | delete
Well as you say, a chalet is a lovely cosy home. I would have one anywhere, mountains or not! :-)

I do, Cynthia. When you live with the mountains, it never quite feels right not to have them there any more. Thank you for stopping by here.
  • jptanabe Feb 6, 2010 @ 11:45 am | delete
Oh I definitely wish I owned a chalet in the Alps! Love the pictures - made me feel like going there. If I can't go, I'm thinking geraniums would be nice around my house when spring comes!
  • WordCustard Feb 7, 2010 @ 5:48 am | delete
Ah yes, that's just what I do -- window boxes of geraniums to make me feel like I'm in the Alps even when I'm not!
  • MiaBellezza Feb 6, 2010 @ 9:11 am | delete
    I certainly don't and I certainly do!

I would love someday to visit the Alps. BTW I love Swiss Chalets! The pictures are inspirational. Well done!
