Some leaders of some countries would not allow tips like these primarily because they won't receive any kickbacks from it. Here in our country, a man invented a device that can make cars go using water but because leaders feel they can't make money from it, the inventor junked the idea. What a waste...tsk tsk tsk....

CF's contain mercury. Break one in your house, it's an instant haz-mat site. Bring in the guys with the white suits & respirators, because you don't want to breathe mercury vapor. The mercury is vaporizing because it has a low vapor pressure. Long story short, that cute $3 bulb will cost you $5000 or more to clean up if it breaks.
Plus, they oscillate or blink at 60hz, the frequency of our power system. Try looking at one with your peripheral vision, you'll find that it 'vibrates. Personally, I can't stand CF's. They make some people a lot of money, and they do happen to use less energy..But so does riding a bicycle.
    Try LED's. Or soy candles.

There is also a light bulb company that cares out there and has a 24/7 customer care line with the sole purpose of answering any questions about CFLs, cold cathodes and LED lighting. I found this cool new company at http://www.bulbme.com check it out!

How Many Happy Meals Does It Take To Eat A CF Lightbulb?

Present value (something us finance folks do) of $66 in lightbulb savings is $3 dollars. So CF bulb worth $3 to me in savings today. For $3 I'd get more pleasure buying my kid's a Happy Meal than a CF bulb. CF needs to be more remarkable?

What a neat initiative! I would like to show you an article on an even more energy saving new lightbulb, a LED bulb, invented by the great grandsons of Anton Philips. It lasts for 50,000 hours and is more friendly to the environment than the CF bulbs: http://www.odemagazine.com/article.php?aID=4399
