Changes To Facebook Are Goofey

Facebook 2008 Did Facebook Goof??

Are the changes to Facebook all that evident to the social media crowd??

There sure was a lot of buzz on the hot topic of changes to Facebook early this summer.

Does it concern you that along with the changes, spammers have found a way in so Facebook is having to make changes in email notification and other unplanned changes?

Part of the original plan was to decrease the "clutter" on our profiles and I guess it does look a little cleaner. Add-on applications are behind a new tab now.

Apparently, many complaints were coming through to Facebook asking for a change, that it was getting "as bad as MySpace."

Do you agree with that? I sort of like MySpace plus my husband would tell you that I obviously don't mind clutter :)

So, why am I writing this lens? Well, I'm not sure why. One thing I'd probably have to say is that it's a very savvy Internet marketing, social media type of thing to do -- to write about the news in our industry.

So I guess it's two things I want from this lens:

(1) I want to see if I can "use the news" and get your attention because I have some things of interest to say about social media marketing in general and about Facebook specifically.

(2) And I want to know what you think about social media and whether or not you think Facebook goofed?

That's it. Basically, I'd like to do a little social media networking here!

Are Changes To Facebook Goofey?

I mentioned that along with the changes to Facebook, spammers have found an easier way in so Facebook is having to make changes in the email feature.

Well, I haven't really noticed an increase in spam but I've noticed the email change. But maybe that's just progress.

The changes to Facebook are probably not goofey. It's just a human being thing - I like progress but not change. Now how goofey is that! I can't have one without the other, right?

Was The Wall Too Micky Mouse??

Or Was Loosing The Wall A Micky Mouse Move?

Why delete the wall? Maybe some of the clutter complainers thought it was too Micky Mouse... but I really like Micky.

Now the wall is a "publisher" thing and the rich media feature is gone, or at least I can't find it. It's just plain text now.

Part of the original planned changes to Facebook I think was to make the application developers happier and better. Facebook wanted them to kick it up a notch in quality. I get that. Not a bad idea. Plus putting applications behind a tab now does look tidy. (is that the same thing as boring, I can't decide...)

Here's another quandry - all my contact information is behind a tab now too. Since I use social media more for business than pleasure, that seems a little goofey to me.

    Terri,
I would have kept the old FaceBook if I could. Yes, I agree it looks more polished, but info is also harder to find. It's like using a huge purse that opens wide or a huge purse with lots of inside pockets. I prefer to dig.
    Thanks, Becky Joubert

I don't mind the new facebook. I don't mind that things are hidden behind tabs. If people are curious enough they will want to know more. I like the tidy new look.

I liked the wall feature. That's about the only thing I miss.

Have you tried the instant messaging feature? That area really needed to be improved. It was rather primitive.

Anyway thanks for sharing, Terri. Thanks also for including the links.
