Chantix Review - Chronicles Of A Chantix User.
If you are a current smoker and are even considering trying to kick the habit, you might have heard of a new stop smoking aid on the market called Chantix. If you are like me you have probably been scouring the web to find out as much about this supposed miracle drug as you possibly can. Chantix reviews are few and far between at the moment, but I hope to help in that area. I will be reporting on my experiences with this new smoking cessation drug over the course of the next few weeks, as a real life case study in the benefits or shortcomings of Chantix.
For those of you who aren't entirely familiar with Chantix here is a bit of background directly from the manufacturer Pfizer.
There are receptors for nicotine in the brain. When smoke is inhaled, nicotine attaches to these receptors. This sends a message to a different part of the brain to release a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine gives a feeling of pleasure. But it only lasts for a short time. The body wants to repeat this feeling. Based on research, it is believed that CHANTIX (varenicline) works by activating these receptors and blocking nicotine from attaching to them. However, CHANTIX does not contain nicotine.
As a 25 year smoker having tried numerous methods to kick the habit, I am very excited about the possibilities this product promises.
Stay tuned... we are going to go through this together.

Chantix Review - Day 1
Chantix Review - Day 1
If all goes as planned 7 days from today will be my quit date.
I started taking Chantix this morning at approximately 9am. The first dose is a single .5mg tablet and as I would certainly expect... there is really nothing to report. No side effects whatsoever. But, it is still very early in the game. Who knows what future days will bring.
I am very excited, and hopeful that this will finally be my ticket to being smoke free.
Tomorrow is my 39th birthday, and I would really like to remember this one as when I was finally able to kick the habit. For my 8 year old daughter as well. I want to be in her life for a very long time.
Wish me luck, and stay tuned. This might just be what you have been looking for as well.
See you tomorrow.
Chantix Review - Days 2 -4
Chantix Review - Days 2 - 4
Perhaps some very mild side effects, such as a bit of mild anxiety on Day 2. However, it is only fair that I confess to having had mild anxiety in the past. This was nothing nearly as severe as anything I have experienced before and it passed within a few minutes.
Mild gas/constipation on Days 3-4 which I can't 100% attribute to Chantix, however it is listed as a possible side effect, so it bears noting here. All in all, nothing severe whatsoever. In the interest of fair reporting, I feel I need to disclose everything no matter how mild I have experienced during this review.
I am currently on Day 5 of my prescription which is the second day of twice a day dosages of .5mg per tablet. So far I haven't noticed any major changes in my smoking habits. However, I do notice a difference in taste over the last 24-48hrs. and think I am beginning to experience a bit less of the "nicotine rush". It's still very early in this trial, but I am really pleased with the methods so far.
I really think continuing to smoke for the first 7 days is a bonus for me. In the beginning I wasn't so sure, but having had time to reflect over the course of the past few days I really believe it is giving me time to grow used to the idea of quitting, without having to feel guilty about still smoking. I am supposed to continue smoking! As the days move on, I firmly believe the physical addiction is going to be much easier to defeat than the psychological addiction. The smoking rituals, if you will. I have found myself smoking out of ritual already, and realizing I really didn't want the cigarette.
I'll keep you posted on how this all transpires.
Until tomorrow...

Chantix Review - Days 5 - 7
Chantix Review - Days 5 - 7
The last entry I made was during day 5, and here we are early in Day 7, and I am happy to report that I haven't had any real trouble with the Chantix side effects so far.
Unfortunately, I have been feeling a bit under the weather due to a sinus cold/allergies, but I can hardly attribute that to the Chantix.
Early on I was concerned about mood swings/depression etc. None of which have occurred so far. We are still early in the game, and I expect there might be a few twists and turns ahead, but I think I am prepared. From all that I have read the physical withdrawal symptoms are reduced to such a great degree that they are much less noticeable.
Tomorrow is my scheduled quite date. I must admit I am a bit nervous, but I am excited all the same.
Be sure to check back for the update on how the first smoke free day goes!
Wish me luck!
Chantix Review - Days 8 - 9
Chantix Review - Days 8 - 9
I can't remember ever being able to say that before. I have gone longer smoke free, but always with some sort of nicotine replacement.
I must admit it feels great!
Has it been easy? I don't know if I would call it "easy", but much easier than I anticipated, and certainly easier than any previous attempt. There have been cravings, or urges. But I would have to describe them as more than manageable. I haven't had any noticeable mood swings. ( and my family would let me know if I had ;) I have noticed that I need to keep myself occupied, but that is normal. You aren't taking those numerous smoke breaks every few minutes. You have lots more time to get things done.
Is Chantix a magic bullet that mysteriously takes away every smoking urge, craving, withdrawal symptom, and psychological trigger? Absolutely not. That would be a marvelous pill indeed. But one of those will likely never exist. However, Chantix has been a significant help so far in reducing the symptoms dramatically.
You still have to want to quit smoking. You will still be accountable for your actions. Ultimately it is up to you whether you smoke or not, but this little pill seems to be making this road for me, a much easier one to travel.
I'm sure there are more trials and tribulations ahead. I will keep you informed....

Chantix Review - Days 10 -15
Chantix Review Days 10 -15
There have been a few rough hours over the course of the last several days, but it hasn't been anything the average person couldn't handle. I certainly don't have iron willpower.
The cigarette cravings just usually don't last very long at all, but on days 12 and 13 I had some of the strongest urges I have had since beginning this Chantix test. Having tried to quit in the past, I can assure you they were shorter and less intense than they would have been without Chantix, but it was a test. Happily I passed the test, and since then it has really been getting much easier.
Over the weekend I even had a few drinks with one of my good friends and neighbors, who I used to sit around the garage and smoke and drink with on occasion on the weekends. I told him not to feel uncomfortable about smoking around me, as I had to expose myself to it sooner or later. I was very happy to see that I didn't crave one at all. Quite the contrary, they didn't seem appealing at all. Not nauseating or anything, just not appealing. Sort of like a tolerant non-smoker must feel.
Hmmm... come to think of it, I guess that's what I am now... a tolerant non-smoker. ;)
As far as side effects for the past few days go, nothing too terrible to report. I am noticing a bit of an unpleasant taste in my mouth, but its not that bad, a breath mint on occasion is a good thing for us all anyway.
I haven't seemed to be able to sleep quite as long lately, approximately, 5-6 hours a night, and I am not sure if that is because of the Chantix or not.
I must say I haven't felt at all tired from it, as some people have reported. I actually feel much more energized lately than ever.
Chantix lists "changes in dreams, or unusual dreams" as a possible side effect. I can't say I have had any unusual dreams or nightmares, but I have been dreaming much more frequently and able to remember most of my dreams after awaking. I am actually quite enjoying it, as I usually don't dream or at least do not remember dreaming after I awake. I feel it is a bonus.
If you are ready to quit, I suggest you give it a try.

Chantix Review - Days 16 - 30
It is getting far easier now. I am beginning to forget about smoking altogether. It is a habit that must be unlearned, even though you don't have much of a physical addiction any longer. I am getting there now. Forgetting that I used to smoke after meals. Forgetting that I used to smoke heavily when I was on the telephone at home in my garage. Forgetting that I was a smoker at all. Sure there are still the rare occurrences that it crosses your mind, but they are fleeting thoughts. Gone in an instant.
I got my second month's supply yesterday. I am going to continue taking Chantix throughout this month, but I doubt I will continue with the prescribed third month if I am doing this well. I can only imagine I will be doing even better by then.
I am an ex-smoker!!! I have gotten several of my friends trying it out, and all are reporting terrific results much like my own.
You can do it too! It really does work!
If you don't quit now, when will you? Next week? Next month?
The cost of Chantix is about the same, or cheaper than, smoking. Just think, within a few short weeks, you won't have to spend anything on Chantix or cigarettes.
You really don't have anything to lose except a bad habit.
Now really is the right time. Go for it!

- I smoked for 39 yrs.. For the last 3 yrs. have been smoking at least a pack and a half. I tried the gums,patches,e-cigs and lozenges. Even tried chantix about a year ago, but they made my heart race and seemed to want to smoke more, so I stopped taking chantix. For the last year I have been wanting to get away from cigs, thinking about it everyday. I got tired of them controlling me. I decided to give chantix another try but this time, instead of taking the whole pill I cut it in half. It worked. Heart doesn't race and don't have the urge to smoke more but smoke less. My start date was 1/07/2011. Friday 1/14/2011 was my first full day without a damn cig. That was the longest 24 hours I had to go through in a long time. Hopefully it will be all downhill from here. This is 50-50, mind and body addicition. Be strong and know it is worth the pain and suffering in the long run. Be SMOKE FREE EVERYONE.

- My advice is to use Chantix in combination with Allen Carr's Easyway method. The problem with the Chantix program, is that they have a financial interest in convincing you that quitting is really hard. It is not. Chantix DOES expose how little you actually get from nicotine and that you can enjoy life without it.
One thing that caught me off guard was that I had to "quit" many times. After 1 mo. I got to the point where I didn't even think about the "wake up" cig or walk to work cig. Then, I went on a business trip and BAM, as soon as I left the terminal, I had a strong urge. This is where the Allen Carr mindset can help. You tell yourself that this is just in your mind, you remind yourself what will happen if you give in to the urge, and you actually smile knowingly that the urge means nothing and you can just ignore it.

- I smoked for over 40 years, and really had no desire to quit, I guess that is why other methods did not work. I developed heart disease and emphysemia and that still didn't really give me the desire to quit. But I promised my sons that I would give Chantix a try. I now have been smoke free for over 2 years! And still amazed, no side effects, no lingering desire to "light up" and have gotten back some of my lung function. Wish I had had Chantix years ago. Please give it a try!

- Today I started my fourth week of Chantix. I'm ecstatic to say that I now consider myself an ex-smoker, and I'm in shock at how easy it was. I've even referred to it as a magic bullet! Over the last few years, I've tried hypnosis, accupuncture, patches, gums, and lozenges to quit - all to no avail. I held my Chantix prescription for a while because I was afraid of all the horror stories. I waited for nothing. My biggest (actually only) side effect has been vivid dreams that are strange but humorous, and never scary. By the 2nd day of my treatment, I was already turned-off by cigarettes; I'm not even sure it's supposed to work that way, but it did! By the end of week 1, I was more than ready to quit! I was smoking out of habit, not need, and frankly they tasted as horrible as the first cigarette I ever smoked more than 30 years ago. If you are contemplating Chantix but are afraid, get over it. Think of how afraid you will be when you get that "lung cancer" diagnosis. This is absolutely the best thing I ever did for myself and my family. Good luck to all!

- I am thinking about starting Chantix...I was about to give up on my reading...when I came across this from you...
""""""dhenley May 11, 2009 @ 7:24 am | in reply to Imustquit
You should begin with .5mg, so cutting the 1mg tablets should work just fine for you.
Good luck, I hope you do as well as most of us have with Chantix. Still going strong!!! """"
You wrote it on my Birthday !!!! in fact 4 minutes befour !!! ( I was born at 7 : 35 am ! )
So maybe this is a good sign I should go ahead and use the Chantix...Or maybe it's not a sign and maybe I'm grasping for straws... What is your thought on it...?

- I just started using Chantix today. I'm both excited and nervous all at the same time. I'm excited because I've been a smoker for 21 years now (started smoking at age 11), but nervous about any side effects I may experience. I'm hoping I don't experience any of the really bad side effects that others have reported, I've never experienced side effects with any other over the counter or prescription medicine (except once when I missed a scheduled dose) so I don't really expect too many negative side effects. I will say though, as I mentioned earlier, I just started taking Chantix this morning and all morning long I've felt very "happy"... like I want to get up and dance kind of happy. I don't and can't dance though so that's not going to happen... plus I'm at work right now, so that would just be weird; I'm sure my coworkers would think it's funny though. Anyway, it's been 5 hours since I took it and that weird happy feeling is starting to subside and I'm beginning to feel normal again. If that's the only side effect I have while being on this, I think I can handle it. I'll report on any other side effects I may experience though.
