My dad had been stationed at Fort Riley military base for years and lived in Chapman, Ks. His home was completely destroyed in the tornado. Our family is from Indianapolis so we aren't new to tornadoes. I as a kid, and my family experienced two others growing up one in Indy and the other when we lived in Dallas. But Chapman tornado was the worst much of the town was gone many military families losing everything, out of our friends most had to move back to their home states because they could not rebuild on what insurance money gave... we now live in Florida where we could buy a home for what we had. It's been a struggle not only for us but everyone..

I live far from Chapman in an area that doesn't have tornadoes, but I've always found them fascinating. I'm sure it is much less fascinating if one destroys your home or if someone you know is killed or injured.

I did not experience this tornado or know anyone who did. I do have a cousin who's two week old baby was picked up by a tornado that destroyed the mobile home she was sleeping in. The tornado carried the baby and dropped her in someone's yard two blocks away. She was physically unhurt but had screaming nightmares for a long time after. This was in Oklahoma. You mid-westerners are made of courageous stuff!
