CharBroil Gas Barbeque Grills and Gas Grill Replacement Parts for Simple BBQ Repairs.

Charbroil gas bbq grills have been a staple of barbeque stores, hardware stores and appliance stores for may decades. Charbroil is one of the most recognizable bbq grill brands in the country. The barbecues we recognize as charbroil brands are rarely actually made by Charbroil any longer as most actual material manufacturing is made overseas to maintain the low prices Charbroil is known for. To counter the level of quality that comes with overseas manufacturing Charbroil names its brands with descriptive terms like "Professional" and "Commercial" leading buyers to believe the Charbroil models are made for professional county club kitchens and restaurants. Nothing could be further from the truth and Charbroil gas barbeque grills will often need some replacement parts before the first year has past.

Charbroil Barbecue Grills

Commercial stainless steel models

Charbroil barbecues are great low cost barbeque grills for fast easy backyard barbecuing. The Charbroil models of the twenty first century are not built like the high cost American Made grills that sell for thousands of dollars but for a couple hundred dollars the char-broil line has always been reliable. The stainless steel used in charbroil gas grills is not the resilient 304 stainless with chromium and nickel smelted into the materials for lifetime warranties because of the cost of using this kind of stainless steel.

what kind of stainless steel does a barbecue grill use?

The 200 series stainless steel used in these model barbecues is not made to last a long time but the cart and body of the bbq are rarely put through so much use that they have structural problems. The burners and heat shields and cooking grates and ignitors are the problematic grill parts. Most Charbroil bbq grills will need to replace some od these internal grill parts within the first eighteen months.

Charbroil BBQ Grills through the ages...

Charbroil through the decades.

Originally founded in the 1800's the W.C. Bradley Co began its journey into becoming one of the best grill manufacturing companies. While the parent company name may not mean anything to some people, the name Char-Broil does. This division specializes in making charcoal, electric and gas grills. Their own products are listed under the name Char-Broil and Thermos, but they are known to craft grills for both Costco and Sears with the Kenmore name.

Started back in 1949 the first Char-Broil grill came into existence. Before this time homes typically had stone or brick fireplaces installed into their backyards to do their cooking. Others would use old barrels and trash cans, anything that could be turned into a grilling unit. During this pioneering time in grilling, a gentleman by the name of Henry Ford designed a way to create charcoal briquettes from sawdust. Even though it was originally intended to be used as a heating fuel, most people found it worked best in their grilling units.

By the 1960's gas was becoming a popular method of fuel and Char-Broil responded with their first line of gas grills. This style of grill wouldn't see increased popularity until that mid 80's. During this time people recognized that although there was a higher price to pay it did come with perks such as faster grilling time and a more convenient grilling approach. By 1988 the charcoal grill no longer had the main hold on the market, and gas grills began to be the most popular form of grilling.

In the 1990's, W.C. Bradley Co. turned their main focus to the world of grilling, most specifically in gas grills and their designs. This was a golden age for the Char-Broil brand, as their sales tripled over the course of 1998 until 1995 at nearly twenty percent each year. It was during this time that their gas grills began to outsell their traditional charcoal brand.

When 2008 came around a new revolution had begun. The process of infrared grilling had grown in popularity and Char-Broil grills responded with their Quantum and Red series of products.

Since that time the Char-Broil grill has continued to evolve and began a more recognizable brand name thanks to great craftsmanship, and the "Keepers of the Flame" campaigns during sporting events.

The Jump from Gas to Infrared Grilling

Infrared grilling quickly grew in popularity thanks to its use in professional kitchens as a way to grill food quicker and more effectively. Char-Broil understood there would be a demand for this type of product and introduced a new revolution in grilling for the average home based consumer.
Traditionally speaking, grilling takes place over an open fire. No matter if wood or charcoal is being used infrared energy is in production. The source tends to be apparent by the color of the flame. A yellowish orange color typically signifies a wood fire, a dull red is coal. Infrared is best obtained by the redder the flame you get, thus making the blue flame not the best color for an authentic tasting experience.

When you cook with infrared technology, instead of draining the moisture from an item, it remains in the item and is cooked by the heat that is coming from the burner panels as opposed to an open flame.

The Parts

Over the years the Char-Broil grill system has seen an evolution in the parts that it contains. Current models have a specific list of parts inside of them, when they go out they are often repairing the grill is more cost effective than purchasing a new grill. Some of the most common types of replacement parts are listed below.

Gas Grill Replacement Parts
Swinging Warming Rack
Ignition Electrodes
Cooking Grates
Burner Grill Parts
Cast Iron Pipe for Burner
H Burner Replacement
U Burner Replacement (This is the former type of burner that newer models have replaced with an H Burner.)

Due to the ease of installing and replacing parts that wear out on a grill, you have the ability to maintain and repair your present grill. Since most people are looking to save money, think about how cost effective it would be to keep a grill you have a history as opposed to buying a new one. For pennies on the dollar that grill that got you through the last family reunion or your first Fourth of July together is repairable and can keep making memories for years to come.

CharBroil Gas BBQ Grill Information.

Charbroil Gas BBQ Grill Replacement Parts.

It was the end of the 1950's, when Charbroil introduced their first grill and they have been helping people who enjoy their barbecue ever since. Charbroil was part of the W.C. Bradley Co. - a company involved in various commercial activities. The first grill was cast iron barbecue charcoal grill and gas grills were added in the 1960s. Nowadays Charbroil grills are still going strong and doing what they were always doing for more than half a century, with the difference that they are offering their customers even more diversity, more power and more options. Even though the charcoal grills were still quite popular and they had their peak of sales as late as 1988, they were loosing ground to the more convenient gas grills, especially after the propane gas tanks were introduced and in 1995 gas, grills overtook the old-fashioned charcoal grills, announcing the end of the era of the charcoal grills.

Let us see what one modern gas grill is actually made off. The main parts are as follows: main burner(s), side burner, durable steel (porcelain) lid and firebox, porcelain (also steel or ceramic) grates, cooking area, ignition (electronic), temperature gauge, front panel, wheels. We have to underline here that there are differences between commercial and domestic grills. These differences consist in the following: The commercial models have usually more than two burners plus a sideburner, which one is usually not available in the domestic versions. The BTU (British thermal unit) of the commercial grill's burners is almost twice as high as the home models - BTU determines the heat emitted by the burner. The cooking area respectively is double the size as well. There are differences in the make and durability of the lids, fireboxes and other parts in favor of the commercial units. To illustrate the above said, here are the specs of two Charbroil grills, a commercial and a domestic one. Quantum Infrared Four-Burner Auto-Clean Grill is a commercial model with specs as follows:

Equipped with new Auto-Clean feature for easy burn-off and auto shut-off when cooking is finished ;42,000 BTU Quantum Infrared Four-burner Cooking System ;13,000 BTU Outdoor Stovetop sideburner equipped for Stovetop Griddle, sold separately; 580 sq in stainless steel Quantum system cooking grates; 200 sq in secondary = 780 total sq in; Stainless steel cooking grates and porcelain wire secondary cooking surface; Dual Fuel convertible to natural gas with conversion kit, sold separately; Stainless steel lids, control panel, doors and handles;Surefire electronic ignition; Grate-level temperature gauges above each burner; Silver painted side shelves; 4 casters/2 locking.

Three-Burner Grill with Sideburner is a domestic model with the following specs: 25,500 BTU stainless steel main burners; 8,000 BTU flush-lidded sideburner; Durable black gloss porcelain steel lid and firebox; 360 sq inch porcelain wire cooking grates; 170 sq inch swingaway warming rack; Front panel with pullout basket; Electronic ignition; Black sideshelves; 6" Wheels.

One can easily see what the differences between the commercial and non-commercial grills are.

The newest generation of barbecue grills are the IR (infrared) grills. IR were invented and introduced in the 1980's by a company named TEC, which held also the patent for their invention, so nobody else was allowed to produce IR grills until the year 2000 when the patent expired. After that, the IR grills became more affordable and popular. What is the principle on which IR grills are based? Practically IR are gas grills with the difference to the old gas grills (and all other types), that there isn't direct exposure of the food to the flame. How do they work? The IR grills are based on the principle of the heating through radiation (radiant heating). Unlike the other two ways of heating (through conduction or convection), there is not a loss of heat involved through the radiant heating. This makes the whole process faster and also lot more energy effective. Here is a simplified description of what is the IR grill's main difference to the regular gas grills - just like those, IR grills work on LP gas as a fuel, they have burners, but between the burners and the grates there is a metal plate/panel called emitter. This is what makes the main difference and actually makes it IR - the emitter emits the heat and does the cooking without the need of direct contact with the flames. Its fast, it is safe, it is cost effective. Here are some of the latest Charbroil models with TEC licensed IR burners: Char-Broil Quantum Infrared Gas Grills; Char-Broil RED Infrared Gas Grills;

Char-Broil Heatwave Infrared Grills

Many other companies nowadays manufacture barbecue grills in the USA. Some of the leading brands in the industry are Nexgrill, Thermos (acquired by Charbroil), Weber, DCS, Fire Magic, Lynx, Member's Mark and many others. In fact, they all are still producing the whole variety of barbecue/ charbroil grills - starting from the good old charcoal grills, through gas and electric ones to the latest invention - the infrared grills. Charbroil remains the leader on the market with its new IR series. As the barbecues in general are still growing in popularity, their places on the market are guaranteed, and one thing is for sure - the development and invention of new and more effective ways of barbecuing will continue in a full steam. The offering of new and quality products and services will secure the expansion of these businesses and maintain a constant growth of their sales and popularity. More importantly, the huge number of successful brands and the varieties of their products is ensuring ever lowering prices for higher quality products, from which of course benefits only the customer.
