Charcoal Art by Lonnie Niver

This is a beautiful Yorkie Art piece done in Charcoal and a little paint was used to bring out the color of the roses. The original piece was given to my grandmother in Florida in remembrance of my aunt Brenda. A few hours before my aunt passed away she helped my other aunt and grandmother deliver a Yorkie puppy. Aunt Brenda was a Yorkie breeder and loved her Yorkies.

White orchids was drawn in white charcoal on black Strathmore paper. this art piece was original meant for my wife but my sister bought the original. I think it would look very nice with a burgundy mat with a black frame.

Pepper Trio is one of my favorites because of the detail. It was drawn in charcoal on white strathmore paper.

Angel is drawing on black paper using white charcoal and blue pastel. My original intention for this piece of art work was to auction it off at cancer gathering but it never made it.

Callas Lilies was my second piece I drew on black paper using white charcoal. Not much to say about this art piece other than it is very beautiful. I still have this piece too.

Beautiful Legs was my first charcoal art drawing I experimented with white charcoal to bring out the highlights instead of the shadows. I loved the way it turned out so I did the Callas Lilies shown below. My next art piece using this technique is a piano with a yellow Rose.

This Lake Scene was taken in Tawas, Michigan a few years ago. While I was learning how to use charcoal as a medium I was asked to go outside my comfort zone and do a piece in color so, I did.

This piece is 18x24 and was displayed in the Greater Flint Arts Council(GFAC). It is a Portrait of a beautiful young teacher whom I admire named Tracy Currie. I was asked, along with other students in the class to draw a portrait of her. When the piece was complete Traci asked to buy her portrait. It is know hanging in her home.

Cowboy gear was my first challenge using the charcoal medium. I spent nearly 28 hours on this piece and the it paid off. It was displayed at the Great Flint Arts Counsel in Flint Michigan for a month. Now it is displayed in my grandmothers living room.

This piece was drawing in class. I didn't think this was one of my strongest piece but it seems that it draws a lot of attention. The Rocking Horse is displayed on my mothers wall in Florida.

This is a portrait of my middle son Donovan. I was in a photo class that required a portrait so he agreed to be my model. I decided to draw the photo in charcoal art.
