Senator Schumer Disrespects Progressive Values

Every six years, Senator Charles Schumer kisses up to progressive activist groups. He makes excuses for his anti-progressive votes, and promises that if New York liberals will just support his campaign, he'll stand up for them in the future. In the past, progressive Democrats have gone along with him, but in 2010, things may be different.

Schumer has a veto proof majority in the Senate, and a Democratic President, but he's been up to his old tricks anyway. Schumer has been supporting the politics of George W. Bush even though Bush is long gone from the White House.

In the autumn of 2009, Schumer took one final step too far, as he maneuvered to help kill reforms of the Patriot Act in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Schumer didn't even bother to show up for the meetings on the topic. He just ordered his votes by proxy to support the Bush agenda, to prolongdoesn't deserve one single progressive vote for his 2010 re-election campaign.

Anti-Torture Anti-Schumer

Charles Schumer is complicit in Bush-era torture scandals

When George W. Bush nominated Michael Mukasey, and Mukasey refused to reject torture before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Schumer voted to confirm Mukasey anyway. Since that time, Schumer hasn't lifted a finger to investigate, prosecute or otherwise hold accountable the many people from the Bush Administration who took part in the massive government torture programs.

That's why this bumper sticker reads Anti-Torture / Anti-Schumer.
