Richard Roundtree is Charles Deveaux

From the Heroes Show:

"I look in Peter's eye, I see compassion, empathy, but most of all, I see hope. This world won't be saved on strength. What it really needs is heart — and that's Peter."

...Charles Deveaux (Heroes, Episode, "How To Stop An Exploding Man")

Charles Deveaux - Brief Role On Heroes

Will We See Charles Again?

Likely, Peter will ! Peter Petrelli and Charles Deveaux had a certain bond that was very powerful.

Peter was Charles Deveaux's homecare nurse. And Charles was one of the few and first people to BELIEVE in Peter and see his power.

I'll bet we'll see Charles again from time to time in flashbacks and in the form of Peter's thoughts.

Charles Deveaux at a Glance

This is a list of fictional characters in the television series Heroes, the Heroes graphic novels, and the Heroes webisodes.

Important Minor/Recurring 'link' Character, Charles Deveaux

Charles, Simone, Peter, Isaac, Arthur and Angela Petrelli are all 'linked'

Charles Deveaux is a very important character, although viewers won't see Charles a great deal or for very long.

Charles is a 'link' to Isaac through his daughter, Simone, whom Isaac has been having an intimate relationship with.

Charles is also a 'parental link' to the brothers, Nathan and Peter Petrelli, via their parents, Arthur and Angela Petrelli.

Charles is attached, however briefly, to at least 3 of the major 'Hero' personas and 2 questionable 'hero' personas (parents), so he is connected to 5 people who know or experience SOMETHING of extraordinary abilities.

Pretty good for a man who is already dying when we are first introduced to him in episode 1 (Genesis) of Heroes Season One.

Ironically, the first person, Charles, that we see connected to all these heroes, potential or past heroes, is plainly going to be the first to depart from view.

Nobody left on-cast, to our knowledge as viewers, has the kinds of links that Charles Deveaux has.

Peter Petrelli happens to be Charles Deveaux's homecare nurse, so it is very fitting, in a way, that these two men have an extremely close relationship. Peter is going to help Charles with his transition from life to death.

Charles is going to help Peter realize that he needs to follow his dreams, instincts, and LIVE - no matter that his life will be drastically different in the very near future.

Both men are facing an impending 'no-turning-back' pivotal event - the very largest event of both of their lives, so it is very suitable that they are linked together so closely.

They will each depart alone, but for a short bit of screen time, these two Heroes characters are intimately and irrevocably together in ways that no other two characters can be.

Charles also acts as a father-figure to Peter. We can only guess from snippet-like comments that Mr. Arthur Petrelli wasn't the kind of father to Peter that Peter required. Charles, having known Arthur, would be privvy to all of this and compensates for whatever the shortcomings of Peter's father were.

For a very beginning of a series that promises to be quite sensational and 'out there,' with sci-fi references and effects, this relationship between Peter and Charles is very unique. Right from the beginning, it is easy to say that the likes of a bond like this between characters - may not be seen again - or not for a very long time in the series.
