Family life: Grew up working in blacking factory while family lived in debtor's prison.

Best known for: "A Tale of Two Cities", "Great Expectations", "David Copperfield", "Oliver Twist"

Other jobs included: Law office clerk, shorthand reporter, writer for several weekly and monthly publications (including more than one of his own founding).

Death: June 9, 1870
