Stunning, I can see why you like it here.
  • SheilaMilne May 6, 2012 @ 3:23 pm | delete
Personally, I was fairly disappointed in Ussé. Pretty but those mannequins they have posed around the place are just tacky. I hope they have got rid of them. Villandry is by far my favourite. Some of the smaller, less well-known, ones can be a delight. We happened upon the Château de Cahtonnière with beautiful gardens too.

Loved this lens. I have a picture of my husband standing in front of Chateau Chenonceau, exactly like your intro photo. Wonderful memories of these places :)
  • ChrissLJ Dec 14, 2011 @ 1:46 pm | delete
Someplace, I have a photo of me falling out of the tree beside the entrance to Château de Chaumont. (I'm a little less than graceful.) Then there was a car show happening at Chenonceau while I was there..., bc French chateaux and really expensive race cars go so well together? (Read "another great photo op.") Blois was my least favorite... (and not because it's pronounced BLAH!). I know it was fashionable at the time to have exterior spiral staircases to make it appear as if the king was ascending into the heavens, but it I always thought it was rather condescending.
  • Crestmill Dec 14, 2011 @ 6:46 am | delete
I've been to Chenonceau, and several of the others, as we live in the UK, so have visited France on lots of occasions. There's no questioning just how stunning Chenonceau is though. It's in an amazing state of repair, and you can just spend so long wandering around. Can be busy though, as you said - it is the second most visited chateau.
  • senditondown Dec 13, 2011 @ 9:51 pm | delete

Long, long ago I was on a bus tour of the Loire Valley (and wineries). The bus broke down one night and we had to (well we just did) open some of the wine (and beg a shopkeeper to open his store so we could buy some bread and cheese and ham to go with it). :) Blessed.
  • golfspice Aug 29, 2011 @ 5:53 am | delete
It would be Chenonceau for me, but so many have their own charm and character. I recommend touring the region by car at a nice leisurely pace. Visit a few vineyards along the way. Tour is a good base for exploring the region.

You will probably notice that you will start getting traffic to this page from NaNoWriMo forums, if so you can blame me for that, because me a group of others are planning to write Beaty and the Beast rewrites for the contest this year and we was looking for ideas for creating the Beast's castle, and I told them to come check out the pictures on this page. Hope you don't mind.

It's a great lens you got here, by the way. I love it! Thank goodness for lens of the day, otherwise I might not has seen this lens.
