Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) - Please cheer the kids and us :)

Attention: The 24 hour Tweet-a-thon is on at Tweet_a_thon. Please follow. There are some valuable lessons and free gifts posted there.

CHD can make these flowers wilt. The children feel sick and you feel sicker :( Watching a child suffering from CHD is really frustrating - I feel terrible when these children can't run around and feel dull and down - unlike other children of their age, who are so full of life.

Dr. Mani, a heart surgeon and a renowned Internet marketer is running a special campaign to increase awareness of CHD on the ocassion of Valentine's day on February 14th and I have built this lens to help him spread the word about congenital heart defects, the reasons and how easy it is to help the kids live a jolly life.

Yes, there is an award of $50 for the best CHD lens and I solicit your help to make this lens, the best - so that we (me and you) can donate those $50 for this noble cause :) You can do this by rating this lens - please click on the stars at the top of this page and leave a note in the guestbook. Thanks!

Here is a true story - some dramatization has been added to deliver the message better.

Nine months! Almost a year! The mother goes through so many feelings, joys, grief and fantasies, when the baby is in her womb. The whole of nine months is almost a roller coaster ride for a mother. The father on the other hand is so very amused just thinking about the feeling that a new life is going to be born. A life, which will be a part of his being.

Both the parents, start to imagine how would their child look, how would it smile, how would it cry, how would it call them mummy and daddy, how would it play and so on!

Finally one day, the roller coaster ride comes to an end and all of the fantasies, which they had in mind, seem to be materializing.

The new baby, the new life, the new soul has finally been born. Generally people don't like to see children crying, but the cry of the newborn brings a smile on everyone's face that just cannot be surpassed. You just cant wait to see the child smile, play, cry again, and respond to you.

And one day your doctor calls you and asks you to take it bravely. Your heart starts pounding - what is she going to reveal. "Your child has a Congenital Heart Defect!", she tells you matter of factly.

Crash! Shatter! A drop of tear rolls down your cheek. Why on earth my child? A splash of chilled cold water on your beautiful warm thoughts! So your worst fears have come alive. All is not well - you were thinking when the baby was being dull all the time. When it looked blue rather than pink.

That particular moment during that suspended time, hundreds and thousands of thoughts just run through your mind. You start wondering, whether he will ever be able to play? Whether he will ever be able to dance and sing? Whether he will ever be able to behave as normal kids?  All the dreams and hopes are put on hold!

What do you think would have happened next? How did the mother cope with this? We welcome your comments below. Your encouragement might make someone's day. Thanks for your time!

CHD Tweet-a-thon

Dr. Mani will twitter all day and night for 24 hours to raise awareness about congenital heart defects, on September 12, 2008.

Please drop in, send him a note and visit this CHD awareness page to learn more about this dreaded problem that can be solved (at least for some souls) with your generosity.

Your donations are welcome but cash is not the only thing you can give. You can make a blog post, tell your list about it or just send Dr. Mani a cheerful message showing support.

Tears of Gratitude

She had tears rolling down her cheeks as she walked out of hospital holding her son's hand.

But this time, they were tears of gratitude.

Gratitude to the kind-hearted heroes who had given her son the precious gift of life.

Surjit had just been operated successfully. His heart birth defect was now cured.

Just weeks earlier, her heart-rending sobs had many in the camera crew sharing her sorrow and anguish.

Young Surjit's story was one of many featured in the CHD documentary Dr Mani recorded in May 2008.

The donations generated from this effort have brought smiles of relief, joy and happiness to many parents.

There are many more waiting.

Will you help them? Please?

Your comments are welcome :)

Hi

Please write a small note with your feelings and experience about CHD, if any. Did you know that your encouragement can make a big difference to the spirit of these children?

Why did I get involved in the CHD Awareness Campaign?

  • I respect Dr. Mani and his exemplary work in using the Internet marketing skills for a philanthropic purpose.
  • I wanted to develop expertise in Squidoo lenses and what better way than this to practice and test the concepts.
  • I have a cousin whose son is suffering from CHD - I have seen first hand the emotional turmoil they went through. They could afford the operation - how are the parents, who cannot afford the required surgery, feeling!
