Aloha, Welcome To My Hawaii Family Vacation Lens

What Does The Word Aloha Mean?

Aloha. The best vacation that I have been on has to be my Hawaiian Family Vacation. Since I am an Anthropologist I have a natural interest in other cultures and travel.

The one word that most people associate Hawaii with is probably the word Aloha. This is probably the most important word in the Hawaiian language. So what does it mean? Aloha actually has numerous meanings. It can mean hello, goodbye, affection, love, sympathy, compassion, kindness, and probably many more. The word encompasses one of the core values of the Hawaiian culture.

So why so many meanings from one word? This goes back to the language. It has the shortest alphabet in the world with only 5 vowels and eight consonants. Many of the words in the language have hidden meanings making it a difficult language to learn.

So the next time you go to Hawaii, make sure you think about the word Aloha and its meanings and apply it to your vacation.

Learn A Little Bit More About Hawaii

Hawaii ( or in English; Hawaiian: Moku?ina o Hawaii) is the newest of the 50 U.S. states (August 21, 1959), and is the only state made up entirely of islands. It is located on an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean, southwest of the continental United States, southeast of Japan, and northeast of Australia. Hawaii's natural beauty, warm tropical climate, inviting waters and waves, and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists alike. Due to its mid Pacific location, Hawaii has many North American and Asian influences along with its native culture. Hawaii has over a million permanent residents along with many visitors and U.S. military personnel. Its capital is Honolulu on the island of Oahu.

The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian Island chain, which comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles (2,400 km). At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight "main islands" are (from the northwest to southeast) Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, L?nai, Kahoolawe, Maui, and Hawaii. The last is by far the largest and is often called the "Big Island" to avoid confusion with the state as a whole. The archipelago is physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion of Oceania.

In standard American English, Hawaii is generally . In the Hawaiian language, it is generally or . Hawaii has produced one U.S. President, Barack Obama.

All Inclusive Getaway

Take Your Family On An All Inclusive Getaway

It is a rare moment that families get to spend together with todays hustle and bustle. Mothers and fathers alike spend a majority of their time in the day at work. Children are often involved in after school activities that keep them away from their families. Often the time that families actually get together is rushed, either getting ready to go somewhere or just coming back from somewhere. Isn't it about time to get your family together to take a break from their everyday lives and spend some quality time together as a family. Family getaways present the perfect opportunity to do this.

There are numerous family getaways to choose from. Some prefer to make the time they spend together educational by going on trips that provide a historic value, learning about different countries, or even learning about a part of their own country that they've never explored before. Educational family getaways are becoming increasingly popular, but there are some families that prefer to plan a fun filled family vacation with excitement and adventure for everyone. It really makes no difference what type of family getaway you choose to go on. One important thing you'll want to spend some time on is planning the perfect trip.

Planning The Perfect Family Getaway

Take The Time To Plan Out Your Vacation

Soon, you and your family will have completely forgotten all about the stresses of work, school, and all the extra-curricular events that keep you running around. You'll have more time to relax together as a family and build memorable moments to keep a close family bond. It is extremely important that you make some extra time to plan out your family vacation. Accommodations can get very expensive if you are planning to be gone for a long period of time.

One of the better options is to look for all inclusive family getaways. These packages often include a combination of your travel, hotels, entertainment expenses. Many hotels offer options where kids stay and eat for free and some even have entertainment within the hotel so that you can cut costs by swimming, going on water slides, or playing games in the games rooms. Airlines will often offer packages for cheap flights and hotel stay which can save you a bundle. With a little research, you can plan an affordable family vacation.

Another option that some use if you don't feel that you are able to plan your vacation yourself is to seek out the help of a travel agency. There are numerous agencies that help plan family getaways everyday. They can fit your family needs with the perfect getaway. If you have any special needs or if someone has dietary concerns the travel agents can help you find accommodations and restaurants that can cater to your needs.

The Hawaiian FLower Lei

The Most Recognized Hawaiian Custom

It has to be the most recognized Hawaiian custom there is. The moment you arrive to the islands and receive a flower lei. With todays fast paced society, receiving a lei has become less common once you arrive to Hawaii, but it is likely that sometime on your trip you will receive one.

The traditional custom when giving a lei is to offer it with a kiss. You should always accept a lei when it is offered. It is important to never remove the lei in public. You should only remove it when you are alone especially out of the view of the person that gave it to you. It is considered to be rude to take off the lei after it has been accepted.

Top Ten Hawaii Family Vacation Tips

Some Money Saving Tips For Your Hawaii Family Vacation

  1. Make your travel plans in advance. Great prices for travel are usually easier to find when you have time to do some research.
  2. If you are inexperienced in arranging your own travel plans then you might want to consider getting a travel agent that specializes in Hawaii travel. They could give you valuable tips and find the best rates for you.
  3. Listen to friends and family that have already been on a Hawaii Family Vacation. Ask questions about their trip and the best locations to visit. Ask what they would and wouldn't have done if they were to go again.
  4. Plan your trip in the off season. Prices tend to be more inexpensive in the spring and fall.
  5. If you want to see all of the different islands of Hawaii then you should consider taking a Hawaiian cruise. The ship will visit the different islands and you don't have to pay for a flight or hotel each time you change islands. It will also save you time packing and unpacking each time you change islands.
  6. If you want to visit lots of sites it will probably be more cost effective to rent a car. Travel can get really expensive if you are paying every time you want to go some where.
  7. Bring snacks along with you when you go site seeing. Keep your hunger down so you aren't so tempted to buy food everywhere you go. Save you money throughout the day and then spend your money on a nice dinner every now and then.
  8. Try to avoid spending all of your time in the tourist areas. There can be a lot of tourists at times. This makes it difficult to find good deals. You can find nice souvenirs in the non tourist areas for a great price.
  9. Make sure you do some research and find out what sites you want to see and plan out your vacation so you can fit everything in. Make sure you leave some time open to do some spur of the moment activities that you might run across.
  10. You will definitely want to take your camera along, but I wouldn't take your most expensive camera. Take along a decent digital camera with extra memory or buy some disposable cameras before you leave home. Disposable cameras and film can be a bit expensive in Hawaii.

Hawaiian Kona Coffee

If Your In Hawaii Try The Coffee

When you think of good coffee many look to South America for fine coffee beans. There are many of us that prefer to look to the Hawaiian islands for great coffee instead. Hawaiian kona coffee is some of the best gourmet beans that you can find in the world. The rich taste and full body of the brew is truly delicious.

I first time I tasted the Hawaiian kona coffee it was received as a thoughtful gift from a friend that had lived on the island. It was in a thoughtful gift basket and it was loaded with different tropical treats that I really enjoyed including chocolate covered macadamia nuts that I love to eat also.

Even with the chocolate covered macadamia nuts nothing was as tasteful as the Hawaiian kona coffee that was in the package. I usually don't drink too much coffee but in this case I was looking forward to a fresh cup each and every morning. Once the supply was gone I began to search everywhere to find quality Hawaiian kona coffee to purchase myself.

I was a little surprised by how challenging it was to find the coffee. There were a handful of stores that I thought would likely have it, but I kept getting disappointed. Even though you can find products that have the Hawaiian kona coffee phrase on its label that doesn't mean that the coffee is the same quality or gourmet.

The reason for this is that many companies blend different beans into one batch. They dilute the flavor of the product which makes it just ordinary. In order to make sure that you are getting a hundred percent pure Hawaiian kona coffee, you want to do a little bit of research about the product. There are ways to determine whether or not you are getting the real thing.

I found that the easiest way to obtain the necessary information is to do some online research. There are tons of resources available and you can even find a company that will ship the coffee right to your house. This option was definitely the best option for me.

There is good reason that some Hawaiian kona coffee is better than others aside from blending. The brand that was so appealing to me was available online. I saved so much time by searching online, not only did I find my Hawaiian kona coffee I also found some general information about the product that was really helpful. The older the trees, the better the beans.

Hawaii Family Vacation

Winter Vacations

One of the best times to take a vacation is in the middle of the winter.

Most folks like to fly off somewhere warm and sunny, and they do this to escape the cold.

Now that winters are warmer than they used to be, some people are not getting the same snow they once enjoyed as kids. When this happens, these people begin to miss the winter weather and they go off on winter vacations for activities like skiing and snowboarding. They can also ice skate or go ice fishing if they miss that sort of thing.
