Buying a cheap aquarium

There are a number of resources that can help you obtain a discounted fish tank. If you can save some money on the aquarium then there will be more left over for buying the fish.

Low cost aquariums

Setting up an aquarium is a costly exercise if you make all of your purchases from a pet shop. While it is true that this was once the only place to buy your fish tank, this is no longer the case.

In this day and age their are many ways that fish tank sellers can provide fish tank buyers with their aquarium needs. This means that aquarium buyers can benefit from the lower prices created through competitive pricing.

Fish tanks purchased straight from the manufacturer are more cost efficient than buying them at retail prices. To find manufacturers selling direct try online auction houses such as ebay or your local classified newspaper.

Yard sales and second hand stores can also supply your aquarium needs. If an aquarium has a layer of gravel on the bottom be sure to check the glass floor for any concealed cracks. Avoid old putty sealed aquariums in favour of those bonded with sillicone. Wash these second hand purchases well before filling with water.

Some people may not have to look further that their own backyard for a fish tank. Broken aquariums that were pushed out of site after a breakage are just waiting to be fixed. If you do not have one then mabye a friend or relative has a broken aquarium tucked away. Fix cracks by laminating a new layer of glass over the crack using acetic cure silicone as the adhesive.
