Best Places To Find Cheap Budget Hotels In Bangkok

Not too long ago if you asked where you can find cheap hotels in Bangkok for under 1000 baht you would be told only in Khao San Road. While that still rings true today the hotel industry in Bangkok has changed remarkably with many affordable hotels opening closer to central Bangkok near the best shopping malls and train stations. Today you can find many clean and guest friendly budget hotels closer to the city's hub of activity such as Pratunam, Silom and even in parts of Sukhumvit, areas that have a reputation for higher hotel room rates.

Bangkok's hotel industry is booming with new hotels that recognizes the needs of budget travelers wanting to stay in the center of the city where they can enjoy the colorful sights and attractions in the day and still enjoy the nightlife that has made the city so famous.

A lot of budget hotels in Bangkok under the 1000 baht price range are quite comfortable as long as you are reasonable on what to expect for room quality. Though Bangkok's hotels does have a reputation for spending less and getting more. Some hotels include a free simple breakfast with the room rate and some hotels even offer guests the use of a swimming pool.

As someone who does consulting work in the travel industry I often hear stories from travelers about how much money they saved on their trip to Thailand. Not only can you find cheap and comfortable accommodations, factor in the low cost of food in local restaurants and transportation you will still enough money in your pocket on your return home.

Popular Cheap Budget Hotels in Bangkok Under 1000 Baht

All of the hotels listed below are in the 1 to 2 star range. So yes they are very cheap in price so you can't really expect too much. I have linked all of the hotels with a popular hotel reservation agency in Thailand. It's a good agency to check rates and read current guest reviews about the hotels you are interested in.

  • You'll find cheaper hotel rates from March through November, the low season, which the rates you see below are based on.

  • It's a good idea to book longer consecutive stays to get eve lower rates.

  • Most of the hotels listed here include breakfast, depending on the room type you book. You can easily see which hotels include breakfast by visiting our hotel reservation partners.

  • We rely on guest's reviews to help out anyone who visits this lens. If you made a hotel reservation here, come back and let everyone know about your experience.
  • Bhiman Inn

    Rates From 940THB Per Night

    Bhimann Inn Hotel
    Breakfast: Not included
    Internet Access: Not Free
    Address: 55 Phrasumen Road

Bhimann Inn Hotel is a very comfortable and affordable hotel near Khao San road, which is just a 5 minute walk south from the hotel's doorsteps. Most travelers enjoy the fact that the hotel is located in a very quiet area by the Chao Phraya River and a fantastic park nearby. The rooms here are clean and standard with air conditioning. There is even a small swimming pool for guest use though it doesn't get much sun. But for under 1000 Baht per night this hotel is a very good value.

There are no trains nearby so the best way to get to the commercial shopping center in Bangkok is to take the Express River Boat at Tha Phra Ahtit pier nearby. The fare only cost around 13THB and can take you to Chinatown or Saphan Taksin pier to transfer to the BTS Sky Train.

    White Palace Hotel

    Rates From 1150THB Per Night

    White Palace Hotel
Breakfast: Included (depending on room type)
    Internet Access: Free Wi-Fi Internet
    Address: Petchburi Road Soi 15

White Palace Hotel is located right in central Bangkok particularly in the shopping hub called Pratunam. Anyone staying here can enjoy shopping to their hearts delights with plenty of jeans and t-shirts to purchase at close to wholesale price. Pantip Plaza is very near too and it's a place where you can purchase all sorts of computer parts and equipments. It's also a place notorious for selling bootleg DVD movies, computer games and pirated software.

The White Palace Hotel is a very clean property though the fanciest part of the hotel is the lobby. The standard rooms here are a bit small but reasonable for the cheap room rates. There is also a swimming pool here for guest use and the room rates normally include a breakfast depending on the room type booked.

    Pratunam City Inn

    Rates From 930THB Per Night

    Pratunam City Inn
Breakfast: Included (depending on room type)
    Internet Access: Not Free
    Address: Petchburi 33 Road

Pratunam is a very popular area which is why I also recommend Pratunam City Inn. This particular hotel is situated closer to a lot of small to large wholesale clothing shops plus you can find lots of souvenirs here as well. Then there are these huge department stores nearby too like Central World and the Big C. And if you walk down about 15 minutes south you will hit Chidlom BTS train station and even more department stores with expensive clothing and bags for sale.

Standard rooms at the Pratunam City Inn are small but very well maintained to ensure a comfortable stay. As I mentioned this is a very popular budget hotel so the rooms in here are booked full a lot of times. So if you choose to stay here I suggest booking in advance.

    Unico Express Sukhumvit

    Rates From 800THB Per Night

    Unico Express Sukhumvit
Breakfast: Included (depending on room type)
    Internet Access: Free Wi-Fi Internet
    Address: Sukhumvit Soi 3

Unico Express Sukhumvit is right in central Bangkok and is the perfect hotel for those on a budget and want to stay near the red light districts. It's about a 10 minute walk to a popular building called Nana Entertainment Plaza where go go bars and beer bars are packed together. Even though the sex trade is evident in the neighborhood this hotel is in a quiet section so it's very safe for families. But overall this section of Bangkok is an ideal location because it's near a BTS Sky Train station and there are plenty of businesses catering to foreigners. Not too far is also an Arab district with a lot of middle eastern restaurants and businesses to check out.

The rooms at the Unico Express are decent in size and the quality is sufficient. The economy rooms which are the cheapest is of course the smallest. But for the 1000 baht price range you're getting a room in a very busy and lively neighborhood in Bangkok.

    Davinci Suite Hotel

    Rates from 1290THB Per Night

    Davinci Suites Hotel
Breakfast: Included (depending on room type)
    Internet Access: Free Internet Access
    Address: 3/8 Soi Sukhumvit 31

Davinci Suites is a very small hotel with only 20 rooms. So no surprise that the cheapest rooms which are called Express are small indeed. But just like most hotels in Bangkok, small sized rooms are quite comfortable, especially if you don't have more than 2 persons in 1 room. It's a clean hotel and even though it's associated with as a 'spa hotel' there are not a lot of guest amenities except a spa.

The only real positive about Davinci Suites is the location. It's right on Sukhumvit road near the Emporium shopping mall and Phrom Phong BTS station where you can ride the Sky Train to visit more commercial parts of the city.

    Centric Ratchada Hotel

    Rates From 880THB Per Night

    Centric Ratchada Hotel
Breakfast: Included (depending on room type)
    Internet Access: Not Free
    Address: 502/29 Soi Yucharoen

If you are claustrophobic and want big rooms at a very cheap rate then Centric Ratchada Hotel is the place you should stay at. Granted the immediate area of the hotel is not so desirable it is close to a MRT subway station and a big computer mall called Fortune Town. For lots of great Thai food check out the food court in the mall and the supermarket with plenty of places to shop and eat cheap.

Besides the shopping malls nearby there really isn't much to do around the area. However, Centric Ratchada is a 10 minute walk to Phra Ram 9 MRT subway station and you can use the train to get to the major commercial shopping and attractions in the city.

Out of all the hotels reviewed here Centric Ratchada has the biggest rooms. And for rooms starting at 900 baht a night this hotel is a real bargain and very popular with young travelers from Asia. Though some might not like the area because it is very quiet but it's very safe and taxis might have a hard time finding the hotel.

    Rambuttri Village Hotel

    Rates From 880THB Per Night

    Rambuttri Village Hotel
    Breakfast: Not Included
    Internet Access: Not Free
    Address: 95 Soi Rambuttri

Rambuttri Village Hotel is another cheap and popular place to stay near the backpacker's district of Khao San road. The location of the hotel is in a very idyllic area with large Banyan trees and a temple nearby. The hotel itself is very well run and yes the rooms are a bit small but again it's under a 1000 baht per night and offers guests use of a small swimming pool.

There is a nice little garden in the center of the hotel with plenty of places to eat and make travel plans. Though I would consider walking around a bit first for food and purchasing tours outside.

Rambuttri Village is a very good choice not just for backpackers but for leisure travelers looking for a very affordable budget hotel in the city's old and historic district.

    Bangkok City Inn Hotel

    Rates from 1030THB Per Night

    Bangkok City Inn Hotel
Breakfast: Included (depending on room type)
    Internet Access: Not Free
    Address: 43/5 Rajdamri Road

The best thing about Bangkok City Inn Hotel is the prime location in central Bangkok closest to the most popular shopping malls and departments stores. Central World and Big C department stores right across from the hotel. Pratunam, Platinum Fashion Malls and Pantip are just a 10 minutes walk from the hotels doorsteps. And staying in Bangkok City Inn gives you plenty of choices for places to eat cheap.

That said, since Bangkok City Inn is a budget hotel in the expensive part of the city you can't expect too much quality. Though the good news is the hotel has be recently renovated to a certain degree. Despite the fact the hotel is a bit old it still is a very popular hotel especially for families because the hotel usually includes a free breakfast.

Things To Know Before You Book Your Hotel

And Tips For Finding The Best Hotel Rates Anywhere in Thailand

If you want to stay in a hotel in Bangkok that charges 1000 baht per night you have to have certain expectations. Obviously all hotels are different and one guest may have a happy experience while another guest may have not be as satisfied in same hotel. You might get a room with stained carpets or even worse stained towels. In any case most hotels will accommodate your concerns by offering a room change if one is available and all will certainly help you exchange a dirty towel.

That said, the hotels reviewed above are some of the most popular budget places to stay in Khao San Road, Pratunam and a few in the commercial business districts of Silom and the center of nightlife activity in Sukhumvit.

One key to getting the best hotel rates is to check hotel reservation websites such as Agoda.com. The reason why is there are many hotels in Bangkok competing for tourist dollars. As a result hotels have a hard time keeping their rooms filled to meet quotas. Hotels will release discounted unpublished hotel rates to Agoda.com who has a huge presence on the Internet. Thus a hotel that uses their services will have an increased chance of being found on search engines.

I took a chance after reading your review of Centric Ratchada. It's a nice hotel big room, just the way you showed it. The only negative is no free wi-fi. I had to pay for this wi-fi card and log in to write this comment. But overall, it's a hotel I would recommend too because the train station and a huge shopping center is close to this place.

I saw your video review of Centric Ratchada. Good job dude! We fit like 5 guys in the room and still had plenty of room. We like how clean the rooms are and the air conditioning saved our lives because it's hot in Bangkok. Very friendly hotel service from staff too. And we enjoyed the location because it was so close to a few malls and train station.

Very useful and informative! It's not easy to find a cheap and decent hotel in Bangkok, so you're doing a good job with this lens.

Pesonally I like Centric Ratchada, okay so the are is 'quiet'. That's good because it's not crowded and there is not a lot of noise. Besides the rooms are big and the value is excellent. And you can't beat the fact that there is a big mall nearby with food courts. I recommend Centric!
