Free and cheap things to see and do in Paris

"The air is free for everybody, rich and poor alike!"

Behind the camera that took this picture: me, having free fun in Paris, which isn't hard because almost everywhere you go you see things like this! I don't know about your neighborhood, but here in Chapel Hill NC you can't even see ONE statue like this one in the Place de Republique, which was just a five minute walk from my Yiddish classes.

I'm a big believer in walking through the city, and every afternoon for three weeks I set off on my own two feet and saw wonderful things. I hope this lens will inspire you to do the same...

Walking to the Eiffel Tower and the ferris wheel

I didn't spend the money to go up the tower but I watched children splash in the nearby pool...

View from the ferris wheel

OK, it wasn't free, but it was cheap and worth every centime!!!

Strange characters seen in Paris streets

Some are wooden, some are human

Can you believe this guy had to go to the ATM before he got his pants on? Do you think his Significant Other threw him out of the house and now he has to buy a shirt and some shoes?

More free fun: storefronts

I absolutely love funky old buildings.

We don't have stuff like this in North Carolina

We're thinking of going to France for our summer, 2010, vacation, including Paris. I remember my two trips there years ago, when I was in high school. I had a wonderful time and spent very little money. But I did wear out the soles of my shoes, that's for sure, walking all over. It's a wonderful city, which you can definitely enough on a shoestring budget. My friend and I actually spent one hot afternoon splashing around in a fountain in the government square, people watching and having a good ol' time. Didn't cost a thing!

Your photos are great - really from a regular tourist's perspective. Some day, I will get to Paris and i'll check out all your lenses before I go.

Great photos! Lensrolled you to my Top 10 things to do in Paris lens. One of my favorite FREE activities in Paris is people watching while sipping a glass of wine along the Seine.

How to Live Like a Cheap Student in Paris | eHow.com
The glitz and glamour of Paris doesn't have to be enjoyed with money. Paris is a live museum. As a student the temptations of good restaurants and famous clubs can make you broke. But Paris has many cheap and fun activities to offer. Rent a bike (called the Velib) and cruise Paris for just 1 euro an hour or just sit in a cafe for hours sipping a cheap coffee while you people watch...
