Where to buy Cheap Prescription Glasses Online

I was sick of paying $100's of dollars a year on prescription eyeglasses, so I decided to try buying glasses online. This lens is my experience and review of using Zenni Optical to purchase frames and lenses at discount prices. I'm glad I did, since now I have several different pairs of glasses for less then one would have cost me from the optometrist. I have updated the lens to relate my experience after the initial purchase, please see the section "long term satisfaction" for this information.

Packaging of Glasses

Packaging & Shipping Each pair of glasses came with a plastic bubble case and microfiber cleaning cloth. They shipped in a regular bubble mailer, all of the glasses were shiny and new and there was no damage during shipping. They all had "made in China" labels and plastic sleeves to protect one side of the frame. Shipping was $4.95 on the entire order regardless of quantity.

How Long did it take I ordered the glasses on friday 11/12/10 and they arrived 2 weeks later on 11/26/10. They do not ship them directly from china, they most likely produce and ship once a week to a warehouse location in the US where each order is then shipped out to the US address.

How to Order

You will need to know your Right and Left Eye values and Pupillary Distance

Once you choose a frame you like, you can opt to order just the frame or go ahead and make a complete pair of eyeglasses. You will need a valid prescription from your eye doctor which should list the required values. The only value that you will probably need to figure our yourself is the Pupillary Distance, which is the distance between the pupils of your eyes. There is a printable ruler online that I held up to my face and looked in the mirror to figure out. It helps if you have a friend do this.

Standard glass lenses are no additional charge! They are included in the price shown online. I purchased the standard lens and the glass is a little thick.

Polycarbonate Lens

Using Lens Tint Option

If you have never wanted to pay extra to get a pair of prescription sunglasses, you can try Zenni Optical and use their Lens Tint option to darken the lenses which is how you create prescription sunglasses.

Initial Impression: I am very happy!

The glasses have arrived - this is what I think.

I am very happy with the quality and price of the glasses. I've been wearing glasses for over 20 years and I need a new pair every 1-2 years. I tried going to wal-mart, target, and other local discount glasses stores, but even at wal-mart the cheapest pair of frames and lenses ran about $60.

The glasses arrived and look great and I can see well out of them. I would measure the size of your face across so you know what size frames you want to order so they don't look too big on you.

Long Term Satisfaction

How did the glasses stand the test of time?

I wanted to come back and relate after wearing the glasses, how things turned out after several months:

Black pair of Cheap Glasses - The paint or plastic coating that was on the black pair of glasses (the cheapest pair at $6 or so) started to chip off after only a few weeks of wearing them. They also had an overpowering plastic smell, so I would not recommend going with a really cheap pair of glasses! These ended up in the trash.

Clear Pair - The frameless clear glasses are still holding up, I only wear these around the house because I didn't like the way they looked. I'm used to my face with glasses on and the transparency makes me look like I'm missing something. So overall the glasses are fine, they just didn't suit my personal style.

Brown Plastic - Overall these worked out the best, they hold up from regular daily wear for over 6 months, they do feel "cheap" but that haven't broken or scratched yet. They are kind of heavy and I would recommend upgrading your lens material to the lighter option so you don't get headaches from such heavy lenses sitting on your face all day.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: AVERAGE! I would buy cheap glasses online again, but I would still go to a local optometrist for daily use glasses. However if you wear contact lenses and you just need a pair of glasses or sunglasses as backups I HIGHLY recommend getting a cheap pair of glasses online. If you need a new pair of glasses or would just like to have a spare pair to carry in your purse or have in the car or at work, I highly recommend trying a pair from Zenni Optical, you can't go wrong. With lenses starting as low as $6.95 and shipping $4.95 you can buy a complete pair of glasses and lenses for $11.90!

I don't wear glasses, but have purchased non-prescription sunglasses online and am thrilled. I will recommend this lens to people I know who will appreciate the savings.

Interesting. I am always destroying glasses and needing to replace them. I lose them, I sit on them, they fall off my face into the lake... Sheesh. Thanks for the tip on this one. d
