Tips, Pointers and Places for Buying Cheap Laptops
Buying a cheap laptop is one thing, but buying cheap laptops that perform well and last longer is a fine art. Many of us live on a budget that just won't allow a $1,500 purchase of a new laptop, but what you may not realize is that you can get a good laptop at a low bargain price, if you know what to look for and where to go.
There are a lot of factors that make a laptop right for you. They all come with different features and maybe you want to burn CD's and DVD's or you are starting your own home business so you need a little more office functionality, either way there is a cheap laptop on the market for you. By the way, if your interested in purchasing a refurbished laptop, I share lots of great information in my other lens, 3 Things You Should Know About Buying Refurbished Laptops Before Buying New.

Know the brand you are buying
A lot of cheap laptops on the market are what we call white label or off-brand laptops and the general opinion is that you should stay away from these. Stick with popular manufacturers like Dell, Sony and Toshiba, make sure you are familiar with the manufacturer before you purchase their product. The low end off-brand laptops typically have cheap hardware that just doesn't perform as well as it should. More often than not these forms of cheap laptops won't last very long, and the users experience is less than desirable.
Look for the features that you need or want
Buying a laptop on a budget is fine, but don't buy something that you don't want. As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, we all have our own needs or want's for a laptop, make sure that before you purchase a cheap laptop, it has the features you are looking for. The chances are that you are probably looking for something basic to use at home. If this is the case, things like the hard drive, memory or even the operating system probably have little to no value in your decision to purchase a particular laptop. But, what might matter is a CD/DVD burner, or wireless functionality and probably even screen size and resolution, so be sure that the laptop you are interested in has these desired features before committing to a purchase.
It is much cheaper to spend a little more money upfront on a laptop that you want, than to buy something you don't want and have to replace it soon after. If a laptop that you are interested in doesn't come with a specific feature, ask yourself if it is possible to upgrade in the future and if so how expensive will it be.

- Great Lens! There are some great deals to be found out there. Personally I stick to laptops known for being built rock solid, such as thinkpads. I also look to laptops that were built for practical use. I would never buy a 17" laptop that shows signs of having been carried through an airport frequently! However a thin and light laptop such as a Thinkpad X40... that's my personal favorite.
