Along came a spectacularly low moving estimate which completely annihilated all other quotes with a bid of $6K for the same job. Keep in mind that the husband at the time was a NFL player, living in a multi-million dollar mansion full of expensive furniture. Financially, money wasn't an issue.
Unfortunately though, red flags didn't go up for him as this amazing lower bid should have been the first indication of a shady cheap mover's scam that need further investigation prior to any consideration. The customer sadly failed into the trap as the shady cheap movers won the job. But prior to delivery at the destination, this unscrupulous cheap mover demanded 20K or no delivery, which the customer refused to pay obviously. As a result their shipment was held hostage pending payment plus storage and penalty fees.
This kind of story's happen often if the customer contracted a reputable affordable moving companies in the first place, he would have saved himself the agony of going through this ordeal and thousands of dollars in the process.
To avoid a shady cheap mover you should ask yourself one question, why is the moving company quotes so low? Should the cheap mover press to get your credit card information prior to booking your reservation, ask yourself again, what's the rush? Especially, if it's your first phone contact or if the cheap mover never gave you an on-site walkthrough estimate quote.
