Why Are Used Cars A Better Deal?
In everybody's life, there comes a time when you have to buy a car. In today's society, most people do not live near their work (or where they would like to work). In this case, a car can really help you out. It's too bad they're so expensive. But that's only true if you buy them new!

It's much smarter to just buy your cars old and cheap. I completely understand if you'd rather be driving a new car... I feel exactly the same way. But the trouble with new cars is that they will cost you an arm and a leg. And as soon as you drive them off the car dealer's property, they lose half their value instantly. That's many thousands of dollars flushed down the toilet right there!

The Clever Way Of Buying Used Cars
But this is where the clever car buyer makes his move. New cars quickly lose lots of their value. And there are plenty of rich people that buy new cars, drive them around for a few years and then sell them. So when you buy a car that's only a few years old, you will save a lot of money and still get decent bang for your buck. Not all used cars are alike. Some have had 7 or 8 owners and have only fifty thousand miles on the spedometer. Yet others have had only 1 owner and have two hundred fifty thousand miles on the spedometer. There are cars that have been driven many thousands of miles and are still in better shape than a car that only has a few thousand miles to its name.
Many things factor in to determine the ultimate quality and reliability of a car. Proper maintenance is absolutely essential. Not everybody properly maintains their car. A lot of people do, but of those people... not everybody has the car's maintenance history available for you. Therefore, it is important to learn to judge a car while test driving it.
Test Drive A Cheap Old Car Before You Buy!
Nobody likes to suffer from buyer's remorse. Your hard earned money should not go to waste. So don't blow it on a buying a lemon, as they say!You have to test drive a used car before you buy it. During the test drive, you can get a good feel for the car's health. A test drive will tell you more than what the seller ever could tell you. That is... if you know what to look for!
A test drive will take, on average, no longer than a half an hour. This is a very short time to get to know a car. This half hour is your window to find out whether or not the car is in good health.
I have compiled a list of things to watch for and listen to while test driving a used car that you have taken an interest in. Please read on. And make sure to check back every once in a while. Sometimes I edit this lens to add in more things to the list!
Test Driving A Used Old Car - The Engine
At the heart of the car, there is the engine. The engine is the most important and the most expensive part of a car. If the engine is no good, then the whole car is no good. When the engine breaks in a cheap, old and used car... it's usually never worth it to replace the engine. The costs would be higher than the cost of the total car. Which means you might as well buy a second used car. Which means that your first used car is just money flushed down the toilet. When test driving a car, pay attention to how easily the engine fires up when you turn the key. Once the engine is running, listen to the sound. Even an inexperienced person can listen to a car's engine and tell if it's in a good state or not. Anybody who is able to use their common sense to tell if a person is healthy, can also determine whether or not a car engine is healthy. It's really a lot easier than you think. A good engine should purr like tiger when standing still and roar like a lion while driving. It goes without saying that this doesn't go for electric cars!
Test Driving A Used Old Car - The Gearbox
Not only a car's engine, but also its gearbox is extremely important to pay attention to. Having a car with a good engine is great. But you have to be able to shift gears if you want to get anywhere at all! The gearbox controls the engine and determines how much pulling power you get in various speed ranges. So when shifting gears, pay attention to how smoothly the shiftstick goes from one gear into the next.If the shifting does not go smoothly, then you may be looking at a used up gearbox here. In that case, you might want to look elsewhere for a used car. Because this one's transmission system is about to break down. The cost of this will not nearly be as much as the cost of a new engine. But it is still one of the most expensive things about a car.
Test Driving A Used Old Car - The Brakes
A good engine and a good gearbox will get you a long way. But keep in mind that that driving a car comes down to a lot more than stepping on the pedal only. Every once in a while, you're going to have to hit the brakes. I don't like it either, but that's just part of reality. You can quite easily determine the quality of a car's brakes by... (*drumroll*)... using them! Well, duh... who would've thought! Seriously though, good brakes will be able to stop the car relatively quickly and in a straight line.
if the car's brakes feel like they are having trouble bringing the car to a full stop or it makes the car swing sideways, then this might be a reason for you to look for another car. New brakes will cost you a few hundred bucks. A doable expense, but you don't want to have to pay an extra $250 when you just bought a used car for $750.
If the car's brakes are alright during your test drive, then this means you can use them for some time to come. They might be worn by about 10% or they might be worn by about 90%. Unless the car's owner and would be seller tells you what the state of the brakes are, there is no telling how much they have worn.
American Muscle Cars For Sale
Not everybody wants to buy a used car just so they can drive to work in it. Some people like to buy used cars to use them as project cars. They like to patch up used cars and then sell them at a profit. Sometimes they drive them around for awhile themselves.People who do this are either business owners or simply car afficionados. The latter group is especially fond of non regular cars such as vintage cars and American muscle cars. Muscle cars are cars that are a few decades old and have a very distinguished, classy style. American muscle cars are so incredibly instantly recognizable, that people a person with no car knowledge at all will know one when he spots one.
These old fashioned, vintage muscle car classics are, by definition, no longer being manufactured. For this reason, they are scarce. And that scarcity never gets any better. Occasionally, an American muscle car leaves this plane of existance forever due to a car accident that leaves it a total loss. And since no new ones are being manufactured, muscle cars are only becoming more scarce as time progresses.
For this reason, they are fairly expensive. You can pay many thousands of dollars for a muscle car that's in working order. However, you can also knock off many hundreds of dollars for a muscle car that has parts broken, missing or both.
Cars that don't drive always go for much less money than cars that do drive. And sometimes, they're only missing one essential part. This is a good opportunity for the project car buyer to purchase a used, American muscle car. Some are easy to patch up and easily sold at a good profit.
Cheap Wrecked Cars For Sale
Some people like to buy used cars for day to day use. Others like to buy muscle cars because they just love cars so much. Yet others are after buying project cars that aren't just broken... but which are completely wrecked. Even a wrecked car can still be patched up and made ready to drive. The wrecked car business may not be as glamourous as the American muscle car business, but it sure as heck can be profitable! The reason why buying wrecked cars is so interesting to some, is because they hardly cost a dime. They're wrecked cars, after all. They are called 'wrecked' for a reason. Usually these cars will cost no more than a few hundred bucks. That's if you're not going after expensive models. Regular wrecked cars, that didn't cost much when they were new to begin with, can often cost you less than $500 even.
If a wrecked car isn't too wrecked, it can be repaired. If you know anything about cars, you'll be able to extend their lifespan by patching them up. When a wrecked car sees a couple of years added to its life, its value instantly goes up by a few hundred dollars. The trick is finding a way to patch them up cheaply. If you're a handy guy and cars are your thing, then there is plenty of money to be made in the wrecked car business.
If a wrecked car is truly wrecked in the literal sense of the word, then it will be so damaged that you can't patch it up anymore. In this case, you can still use a wrecked car for parts. Not all parts are always lost in an accident. You can usually find good parts in a wrecked car, no matter how banged up it may seem. For this reason, wrecked cars are also referred to as 'salvage cars'. You can use the salvage parts to fix a project car that's not as badly banged up.
No matter how you use a wrecked car... if you know what you're doing, you'll be able to use them to turn a profit!
