Cheap San Francisco Airfare - Find Cheap Airfare to SF & Other Dream Destinations Too

Cheap San Francisco airfare can be hard to find unless you know some of the ways to find the best cheap airfare. If you are a regular traveler, someone that flies 2 to 4 times or more per year and you book your own flights, you may have an advantage over most people. Quite simply that is because you are familiar enough with some of the options available that you can find cheaper airline tickets.

But what about help for the rest of us? For any traveler that wants to explore the wonders of San Francisco is there some way to save money on airplane tickets?

In a word, YES. Included in this lens are a few of the tips and tricks I have learned along the way to saving money on airline travel.

Cheap Airfare on the Internet -

5 Sites You Know, Plus 2 More Worth Looking At

As of 2009, approximately half of all air travel in the U.S. is being booked online (wow! - I actually thought the number was much higher than that). According to a recent survey here are the top 2 reasons people make airline reservations on the internet:

The opportunity to shop online for the best ticket price - rated number one.
The ability to entirely plan your own trip - rated number two.

While this may be old hat to some of you, it still doesn't hurt to review the options for cheap airfare that are available on the 'net. Here are what's considered to be 5 of the top travel sites. They are listed in random order.

1. Orbitz, 2. Travelocity, 3. Expedia, 4. Priceline, 5. Hotwire

Besides the sites listed above, here are a couple more I like...

How to Book Airfare Online -

Comparison Shopping is the Key

To get started, I recommend that you visit the sites I listed above and pick 2 or 3 that you like and sign-up (it is free to sign up). Doing this gives you the opportunity to do side by side price comparisons - and you will find that there are different prices for the exact same flight! Anyway, by having a couple of sites to compare airfare on, you can start looking for your best deal.

Another consideration for getting cheap airfare to San Francisco (or anywhere else) is to also check out the early or late flights. These less popular travel times can save you good money, especially if you have some flexibility in your travel plans. Ah, the good old "red eye" express!

A few final "nuggets" of wisdom. According to my trusted source, when you shop for airline tickets can make a significant difference in the price you pay to fly.

The best days to shop online are late on Monday and early on Tuesday. That is because airlines start posting their new airfare sale prices on Sunday night.

The cheapest days to fly are, in this order; Wednesday, Tuesday and Saturday.

I have even more info that I will share in some future lenses, but for now, here are 2 more ways to find cheap airfare . . .

Two More Opportunities to Save Money

Don't forget to check out Southwest Airlines. Because they don't list on travel sites you have to go direct to their site to book travel. They don't fly everywhere but they do fly to San Francisco. Depending on your destination they have airfare from $49 to $99 and up. Another Southwest benefit? No baggage fees.

My #1 recommendation is the link below. Check it out and decide for yourself.
