Is Free Antivirus Software Worth The Bother?
Some Of The Free And Less Expensive Windows XP And Vista Antivirus Programs Are Discussed Here.
Are All Antivirus Softwares The Same?
Best Free Antivirus Software Programs
I Consider These To Be Among The Best.
I thought it would be of value to some to offer my opinion on the Free Antivirus Software programs that are available. This is a very short list which is not at all conclusive and of course, strictly my own opinion.
I have changed my position a bit on cheap antivirus software and free antivirus software, but I do still tend to stick with my favorites.
In the free antivirus software department, I have preferred AVG in the past, with PC Tools running a close second.
I have ran across a couple of hiccups with AVG lately that has pushed them to second.
PC Tools on the other hand seems to have improved a bit, which of course, makes them my top choice for free antivirus software.
One thing I would like to emphasize is that it is important for you to understand that free antivirus software doesn't update itself or run scans for you automatically. You have to do these things manually.
If you're not one to request updates or scan your PC regularly, then free antivirus software is of absolutely no use to you.
It will only give you a false sense of security when you really have none.
These are what I consider to be the 2 best Free Antivirus Software Programs available.
There's really no sense in arguing about it one way or the other.
Decide for yourself . . . They Are Free.

Good Cheap Antivirus Software
You Can Make It Cheap(er)
One thing that frequently tends to be overlooked is the advantage of purchasing multi-computer licenses.
Talk to some friends, coworkers and family members about the possibility of sharing the cost of a multi-computer license. If you can get the right number of people interested, you can buy a complete suite for less than twenty bucks.
This gives new meaning to the word cheap.

"Please Keep It Simple!"
The only way to keep it as simple as possible is to not give you a choice.
Seriously! This has been proven again and again.
If you get more than one to choose from, you won't.
You would rather do without than make the choice.
So, in order to keep with the true theme of this post, and so as not to confuse you with a choice, I suggest none other than the Computer Associates' Antivirus 2008.
This has got to be the single best Antivirus Software to meet both of these criteria.
The only problem you might encounter could be with installation.
And the only reason for that might be your current antivirus software may still have remnants that may need a little extra urging to leave your system.

But if you still can't decide, I'm telling you, stick with the CA Products.

Unfortunately, AVG as for January 1, 2009 is no longer free. You can download it and run it but they are no longer giving free updates to the data base or support.
