Cheapcyle - keep stuff out of the landfill and put money in your pocket!

Cheapcycle is a new form of recycling...putting items that you can no longer use with people who can use them, which keeps the items out of the landfills, and out of the old pile of junk that you never use, but can't seem to get rid off.

Unlike Freecycle, which requires that all items offered must be free, cheapcycle allows you to sell the items, and make a little money in the process.

Unlike ebay, with cheapcycle you don't have to worry about buying a box, packing the items, and sending them off through the post office.

You do have to actually meet the person who is buying the item, so you should always use your judgement, and be careful when meeting a purchaser, or a seller, just as you should anytime you meet anyone you don't know.

Do you recycle your unwanted items?

If you do tell us your favorite recycling story!

I've given it all away through freecycle and cheapcycle - from backyard playhouses to the front door.

My favorite is the playhouse though.

I have it to someone who turned it into a chicken coop.

Her coop was damaged during a storm, so the chickens were living in the basement.

It was nice to know that I could help someone, and I was really glad that I didn't have to tear the playhouse apart, and throw it away - which is what I would have done if I hadn't know about cheapcycle and freecycle.

What's your story?

This is a great idea! I currently use eBay and Craigslist, but Cheapcycle sounds good too.

dannystaple says:

Yes. I use a combination of freemesa and gumtree to recycle pretty much everything. Or I give it to family/friends who may need it. I see little point in good usable items going to landfill.

flibberlips says:

Yes definately!!I even recently used the clear flap off of a microwave entree to add a clear view spot on the plastic for my windows.

No

We use the local freecycle all the time. It's a great way to pass on things you don't need to someone who can use them.

in reply to tabatha Hi Tabatha - I made my own local group since there wasn't already one.

It does take a little time to moderate the messages, and add people to the group, but if it gets really busy you can usually find people who are willing to help moderate the group.

Let me know if you decide to start one for your area.
