I bought a cheap laptop for school. I got my Acer Aspire 5600 last summer, on sale for about $750. It came with a rebate of $150. $600 for a new computer - what could be better than that??The thing about rebates is that they require you to send in forms and receipts, and in general, I think that the manufacturers (or who ever else is providing the rebate) are actually COUNTING on customers not remembering to return rebates in time, or losing their receipts, or just being too lazy to take care of it.
So yes, you guessed it. My cheap laptop wasn't as cheap as it should have been because we never returned the rebate form. I'm pretty sure that we've done this with a few cell phones, too.
