Who will buy the last Hummer?

Peak oil production is the point at which we are extracting as much oil as possible.  After that we have to work harder and harder for less oil.

We won't run out of oil, but we will run out of cheap oil.  What happens then?  This lens  will show you the best sources of information on when this might occur, if it hasn't already, and what we might do in preparation.

Sounds scary, right?  Well it should.

HAH! Look What I Wrote Back in September.

Toady, June 2008 oil is at $140!!!

Oil Has Hit a New All Time High Price - $80 !!!!!!!!!

How much more expensive will it get?

How much of your income can you afford to spend on gas?
Are you in a position where you absolutely have to drive for all the places you need to go?

Just in time, Richard Heinberg, an authority on Peak Oil has a new book coming out soon called

PEAK EVERYTHING

The title says it all. The end of cheap oil will changes society in ways most people can not even imagine. Our society is built on cheap oil.

Peak Oil Info Sources

There is so much information about Peak Oil, great websites, books, articles, DVD's. Below are just a few of the ones I find particularly current, and informative.
ASPO
The Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas
Dedicated to discussing the issues surrounding the supplies of fossil fuels.
The Energy Bulletin
Daily News on all things Energy. Oil, gas, transportation, agriculture, clean water supplies, permaculture, alternative energy, solar power, global warming, and more. Yes, they are all related.
The Oil Drum
Discussions About Energy and Our Future
The Oil Drum is a community that discusses myriad ideas related to Hubbert's Peak/Peak Oil, sustainable development and growth, etc.
James Howard Kunstler
"The infrastructure of suburbia can be described as the greatest misallocation of resources in the history of the world."
-JH Kunstler

Some folks think he is a crank, but I love reading his column every Monday morning. His book "The Geography of Nowhere" is especially good, an unblinking assessment of our living arrangement.
Peak Oil Forums
Very active discussions on all Peak Energy topics, world events, current affairs.
From the Wilderness
Extremely conspiratorial view of Peak Oil and how it has lead to 911 and the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The founder of this sight and author of "Crossing the Rubicon" has fled the US.
Life After the Oil Crash
One of the darkest assessments of the future that lies ahead. If you like scary stories check out Matt's view of the Post Peak world.
The End of Suburbia
This DVD offers a great history of our cheap oil fueled world, how we got to be the way we are. It then takes a look at what might happen if oil and gas become scarce and expensive.

Jim Kunstler, Kenneth Deffeyes, Michael Ruppert, Julian Darley, Colin Campbell, Michael Klare, etc. All the stars are here.

Bonus features include light-hearted archival promo films of suburbia. This one is worth watching several times.
Michael Klare
Author of "Blood & Oil", writes and lectures about the connection between oil dependent societies and warfare. This is a link to some of his articles on the subject.
Post Carbon Institue
Strategies for downshifting to more sustainable living.
Meet Up Groups on Peak Oil
Want to meet other folks who are concerned about Peak Oil and want to plan for it. Try attending a meetup. There is probably one where you are.
Dmitry Orlov dares to compare.
Will we be as prepared for our collapse as the Soviet Union was for theirs? Dmitry Orlov say probably not. Very illuminating.
