Cheddar Gorge Introduction
Cheddar Gorge is the largest gorge in Great Britain. It is located near the small village of Cheddar in Somerset, England.
The gorge is also the site of another record- the oldest complete human skeleton in the UK. "Cheddar Man" is 9,000 years old and was discovered in the Cheddar Caves (located in the gorge). There have also been older remains from the Upper Late Palaeolithic era (12,000 - 13,000 years ago) found.
Cheddar has become a popular tourist destination because of the gorge and the caves. There are newer attractions that highlight the beauty of the caves, and include history and even fantasty (the Crystal Quest).

My trips to Cheddar Gorge
On an earlier trip to the United Kingdom, I spent a day in Cheddar. It is a wonderfully quaint town with some small tourist shops, candy and bread shops, and home of several wonderful natural caves. The caves are open for tours and are unbelievable.When I returned to the UK most recently, I knew I had to make a special trip to Cheddar Gorge. The most spectacular views can be seen from the top of the nature trails and even from the road.
