How To Make Cheese On Toast

Instructions for basic cheese on toast couldn't be easier.

Toast your bread - You can use just about any type of bread, (regular white sliced bread, wholemeal, multi-grain, vienna etc.) Just use what ever you have.

Butter the toast if you wish, or spread with your favorite sauce - tomato, bbq, relish.

Top with slices of nice, tasty cheese and be generous with it, plenty of cheese is good. Pop under the grill until it melts and starts to bubble and slightly golden. Hey presto it's done. What could be easier?

You can use any cheese that you might use in a grilled cheese sandwich. I usually use cheddar but you can try whatever takes your fancy.

Variety is the spice of life, so go ahead and try these simple and yummy variations. Instructions are simple following the above basic intructions.

Banana and Bacon
Put slices of banana on the toast. Sprinkle with diced bacon, cover with sliced cheese and grill. Garnish with a sprig of parsley and cut into fingers to serve. You can serve this for breakfast, lunch or anytime you want an easy snack. I love this one. Try it! You might be surprised how well the flavors go together.

Avocado and Chicken
Or try this one - sliced avocado, shredded cooked chicken topped with cheese. Add a bit of salt and pepper to the advocado to enhance the flavor. It's a great way to use up left over roast chicken. Ham works well with this too. Yummy.

If avocado isn't available try asparagus fresh or canned. When using canned asparagus remember to drain it well or it will be a bit soggy.

Ham and Tomato
Of course you can also use sliced ham and tomatoes. This is best if you can get some nice smoked ham off the bone, rather than the paper thin sliced stuff from the deli. Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley.

Or try this one. Chop some spring onions and cherry tomatoes and place in a bowl and add some dried chilli flakes. Add a cup of grated cheese. Put on top of toasted bread and sprinkle with worcestershire sauce. Pop under grill until cheese is melted.

To make it into a meal you can always add a side serve of fries or for something healthier a nice green salad.
