Cheesecake Crust

The crust of your cheesecake is just as important as the cheesecake

Cheesecake Crust

Once you decide on the type of cheese cake you want to prepare next you will need to decide on the type of cheese cake crust you will want. The most common type of cheese cake crust is made with graham crackers. Depending on your preference you can use cinnamon, honey, or chocolate graham crackers. Another choice to use is sugar cookies or oreo cookies. Again it depends on your personal preference.

Once you have decided on either graham cracker or cookie crust. Simply following these steps for a great tasting cheesecake crust.

Crush approximately 1 cup to 1 -1/2 cup of cracker or cookie very finely.

Melt 1/4 cup of butter or margine

It is important to firmly press the graham cracker crust evenly to the bottom and sides of the pan you are going to make it in. You want it to be even so that it is the same thickness all over. Using your fingers and your palm is a great way to spread it out evenly. Make sure the graham crackers are moist enough with the melted butter. This will make them easier to spread and it will prevent cracking as well.

There is plenty of room for experimentation when it comes to cheesecake crusts. You can mix some of your favorite ingredients into the mixture. For example some lemon juice or shredded lemon work great for a lemon meringue cheesecake. The possibilities are limited only by your own imagination.

If the types of cheesecake mix you are working with is more of a custard then you will want to consider using a basic pie crust. You can make your own or use a pre-made pie crust if you are in a hurry. Believe it or not some types of cheesecakes simply don't have a crust!

Cheesecake Baking Tips

Homemade Cheesecake tips

Baking tips for the Perfect Homemade Cheesecake

Homemade cheesecake is a favorite dessert of many. However it is not always easy to make a perfectly baked homemade cheesecake. Here are a few tips to help make the perfect tasting and looking homemade cheesecake.

Make sure your cream cheese has softened. To soften the cream cheese take out of the refrigerator for several minutes. If you can't wait the 30 minutes or so and wish to speed up the process, place the cream cheese in the microwave for several seconds to soften. But do not completely melt the cream cheese. It is always easier to mix your ingredients if the cream cheese has softened.

Preheat your oven while gathering your other ingredients and waiting for the cream cheese to soften. Make sure you preheat the oven to the appropriate temperature as stated in your cheesecake recipe. By preheating the oven this will allow the cheesecake to bake at a consistent temperature which helps prevent the cheesecake from cracking.

Mix in the ingredients as directed by your recipe. The best way to mix your ingredients would be by hand or you can mix with a mixer at medium speed. When mixing you want to remove all of the lumps from the mixture and make sure you do more over mix the ingredients. Lumps in the mixture will cause cracks in your cheesecake.

Do not over bake your cheesecake. Remove your cheesecake from the oven when the center of the cheesecake is still moist and the edges are slightly browned. This will help prevent the center from cracking.

Once the cheesecake is done take a small knife or spatula to loosen the edges of the cheesecake from the edge of the baking pan. This will prevent the cheesecake from sticking to the pan when removing. Using a spring form pan to bake the cheesecake will make it easier to remove the cheesecake.

Allow time for the cheesecake to cool. This step can be hardest because you want to just cut the cheesecake and taste it after baking. But you want to allow the cheesecake some time to cool and settle prior to placing the cheesecake in the refrigerator. Cheesecake always tastes better after chilling overnight in the refrigerator.

These basic baking tips will help make those perfect tasting homemade cheesecakes looking like the perfect cheesecake. Your friends and family will be asking for your secrets to baking the perfect cheesecake.

The Low Carb Cheesecake Recipe

The Low Carb Cheesecake Recipe
By Peter Vermeeren

Anyone on a low carb diet knows how great it is to find a new recipe that fits with their new meal plans. This is especially true with low carb desserts. Having the ability to eat delicious desserts while maintaining a weight loss diet helps to keep you excited about your diet results and satisfied with the food you are eating. Both of these things are important if you want to be able to stick with you diet and continue seeing weight loss with less effort. Here is a low carb cheesecake recipe and some helpful hints when it comes to baking while eating fewer carbohydrates.

When it comes to baking anything on a low carb diet there are 2 main substitutions that can make or break your recipes. In order for your dessert recipes to be a hit you will need to find a way to replace sugar and flour while keeping the flavor. Sugar and flour are both highly concentrated carbohydrates and therefore won't fit in to the low carb lifestyle. An essential sugar substitute for a low carb cheesecake recipe is splenda. This sweetener is made from the sugar molecule and retains the same sweetness without being used as an energy source by the body. It also won't cause the same cavities that sugar does. For flour there are different options that can be used such as flours made from almonds and other nuts or legumes. Soya flour is also a very popular flour substitute. Soya flour bakes a little differently that wheat flour so you should be aware of a couple of things if you decide to use it. Soya flour browns much more quickly and so you may need to reduce baking times or temperatures. Also be sure to store it in the fridge or freezer since it is whole grain flour.

Now comes for the best part, the low carb cheesecake recipe. This recipe is simple and delicious but not everyone shares the same tastes with desserts so feel free to make changes to the recipe to suit your own preference.

First, for the crust you will need:

1 ¼ cups of sweetener such as Splenda (amount depends on specific sweetener used)
2/3 cup ground nuts
1/4 cup margarine
¾ cups of almond flour

Mix these ingredients together and pack them down in your baking dish, preferably 10 inches in diameter. Now, the rest of the cheesecake needs:

24 oz. of cream cheese
1 cup of whipping cream
4 eggs
1 ¼ cups of sweetener
1 tsp of sugar free vanilla extract
½ tsp of almond extract

Mix the sweetener with the cream cheese until it becomes thick and creamy, and then add the eggs while still beating the mixture. Continue this until it is at the right texture for you and then mix in the remaining ingredients. Pour the mixture evenly on the crust portion and place this into the oven that has been heated to 350 F. Bake for an hour then turn off the oven but leave the cheesecake in with the heat off for another hour. Cool and then serve when ready. This makes for a simple low carb cheesecake recipe that everyone can enjoy.

I did not know that cheesecake was really a pie. Cheese pie sounds more like a quiche. Did you know that there are certain manners associated with cheesecake? Yes, whether or not there should be a topping has created some deal of controversy.
