Chelsea FC

Chelsea FC - also known as the Blues or the Pensioners - is a professional football club playing in the English Premier league. The club has had successful spells in the 1960s, and since 1998 to the present day, but doesn't hold the same amount of trophies as more successful English football clubs.

Chelsea FC has won the league title 3 times, most recently in 2006, the FA Cup 4 times and the League Cup 4 times.

In European football, Chelsea FC has won the UEFA Cupwinners Cup (now the UEFA Cup) twice. In spite of massive expectations at the club, they have yet to reach a UEFA Champions League final.

Chelsea FC play their home games at Stamford Bridge, their home ground since the club was founded in 1905. The stadium has a 42,000 all-seater capacity, but the club has plans to expand the stadium to a 50,000 capacity in the near future, and have re-iterated their desire to stay at the ground.

The club is owned by Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, who bought Chelsea FC in 2003. Due to his massive fortune, thought to be in excess of £9 billion, big investments have been made in the club, on and off the pitch.

Chelsea FC recently appointed former Portugal manager, Louis Felipe Scolari as manager. He will start in the job on July 1st 2008. Scolari is a very successful manager at international level, having lead Portugal to the world cup semi finals, after previously having won the competition as manager of Brazil. He has yet to prove himself as a club manager.

Team Captain is John Terry, regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, with strong leadership skills. He is also the captain of the England national team.

Other key players in the squad are: Petr Cech (GK), Ashley Cole (D), Frank Lampard (M) and Didier Drogba (A).
