Cher Barbie Dolls

The first Sonny and Cher Dolls were created by Mego Corporation in 1976. These celebrity dolls were made to compete with Mattel's Barbie Dolls. Three versions of the Cher Doll were produced by Mego:

1) Orange Box Cher Doll with extra long hair and wearing an orange gown
2) Purple Box "Growing Hair Cher" Doll with interchangeable hair length (by a key) wearing a black and silver gown
3) Narrow Orange Box Cher Doll with hollow body and without jointed hands wearing a one-piece swimsuit (blue, red or yellow) available in 1978.

Mego Sonny and Cher outfits were released in five different formats:
1) Purple Box
2) Green Box
3) Boutique Collection
4) Blue Carded Fashions
5) Wards Exclusive Outfits

Mego Cher outfits were designed from Bob Mackie originals or designed for the Cher dolls by Bob Mackie. Other toys made by Mego for the Sonny and Cher Doll Collection included cars, two wardrobes, a portable record player, Cher Theatre, Cher Makeup Center, and Cher Jewelery.

Bob Mackie began designing the Collector Cher Barbie Doll Outfits exclusively for Mattel after the Mego Corporation ceased to exist in 1983

The Mego Narrow Orange Box Cher Doll is in the same packaging as the Sonny Mego Doll.

Both the Sonny and Cher Mego Orange Box Dolls are now available on Amazon. You may also find the Orange Box Cher Dolls on eBay.

The Narrow Orange Box Cher Doll has a hollow body without jointed hands. She is wearing a one-piece blue swimsuit from 1978. This Mego Cher Doll can also be found wearing a red or yellow swimsuit.

This Cher Pink Panther Jumpsuit Doll Outfit includes a pink faux fur hat and a pair of pink shoes. The pink panther jumpsuit has bell bottoms and one pink faux fur sleeve.

This Sonny outfit includes a "Buckskin" Jacket with fringe at front, black 'Buckskin' bell bottom pants and orange turtleneck top and black shoes.

This is the Purple Box "Growing Hair Cher" Doll.

The Cher Doll is wearing a black and silver gown and the hair length is interchangeable by the way of a key.

Notice the photo on the box of a young Cher. She is certainly more beautiful than the doll.

Cher is wearing the beautiful purple "Ringmaster Costume" on her "Live: Farewell Tour" Album."

This beautiful costume was designed by Bob Mackie.

The details on the costume on the Cher Ringmaster Barbie Doll are very similar to her original costume.
