Cheryl Cole Style X Factor Outfits 2009

Ranked #2,993 in Fashion & Beauty, #45,506 overall

Cheryl Cole stepped up a gear in the fashion stakes for her second appearance on X-Factor in 2009. The result was that every single fashion magazine in the country was watching to see what she wore.

She created controversy with her infamous "CD-dress" and stepped out in daring fashion from the likes of Versace and Georges Chakra .

Her best look in my opinion was the Matthew Williamson mini-dress (see left) that she wore to the auditons, which made her look young and fun

This page is devoted to all Cheryl Cole's X-Factor outfits of 2009 (To see Cheryl Cole's other clothes and the 2010 X-Factor outfits, see Cheryl Cole Fashion Style

Cheryl Cole finals (Sunday show)

type=textCheryl wore a spectacular strapless black ballgown to the final show, which had an unusual lace and net skirt which overlay a shorter skirt. The dress was by Georges Chakra Couture.

She accesorised with her trademark disco-ball earrings (we saw a pink version of these in week seven). These earrings are also by De Grisogono (as were the pink ones) and similar to the ones she wore on the Jonathan Ross show

Cheryl Cole Saturday Finals Dress

type=textCheryl wore a glamourous strapless formal full-length dress for the Saturday finals show. The dress was by Zuhair Murad Haute Couture.

She struggled to walk in it, but hey, that was a minor detail! She looked fabulous.

Cheryl Cole look week 9 live finals

type=textCheryl's changed her hairstyle! It looks like she's got rid of all the hair extensions and had it cut as well.

I think it looks way better than before, and her look is softer and rather reminds me of one of the original Charlie's Angels Jaclyn Smith (who played Kelly in the show), who had a similar shaggy cut.

Her dress was a pink and black short draped dress by Russian designer Igor Chapurin.

Cheryl Cole dress week 8 live show

type=textCheryl wore a one-shouldered gold and black mini dress by Stéphane Rolland to the week eight live finals.

The top half of the dress was lovely - see picture, but the bottom half was ruined by a giant black bow that overwhelmed the frock. Her hair and make-up were great this week, and she featured her usual modernistic dangling earrings

Cheryl Cole outfit week seven sunday show

type=textCheryl wore a short hot pink frock by Jean-Pierre Braganza.

Her hair was up again and she wore fabulous disco-ball dangling earrings that looked a bit like the ones she wore last year to Jonathan Ross's show, except these ones were pink instead of white. The earrings are by De Grisogono (she wears a white version for the finale - see above).

I loved the hairdo and loved the earrings, but wasn't sure about the dress - it had a weird loop thing on the shoulder which looked like she hadn't put her arms through the sleeves.

Cheryl Cole outfit week seven

type=textCheryl wore a short salmon pink dress with a heart-shaped bodice by Giles Deacon for the week 7 live show. It was custom made especially for her and the colour suited her though I wasn't sure about the style of the dress

Her hair was piled up on top of her head and secured with a bow. Liked the up do, didn't like the bow, which gave a Minnie Mouse effect.

Cheryl Cole outfit week six

type=textCheryl's dress for the week six sunday show was by Richard Nicholl.

It was sort of daring with the bustier effect on the bodice, and the skirt was her usual short, but gold really suits Cheryl and the dress worked.

Cheryl Cole week 5 red dress

type=textThe red dress Cheryl wore for the Sunday show was by Marios Schwab.

A great little dress, the short and sweet silhouette always suits Cheryl, as does the colour red.

Cheryl Cole Week 5 dress

type=textAfter all the drama caused by last week's "CD" dress (the adventurous David Koma outfit she wore), Cheryl decided to go conventional for this Saturday's dress.

It was a black sequined dress ending below the knee and the only decoration was a sheer panel in an X shape on the bodice. This was a Jean Paul Gaultier item, but she played it safe this time.

I didn't like her hair though - it had a red rinse and it looked like she used gel to shape the front, which turned out a bit flat. Prefer her normal big hair do

Cheryl Cole sparkly trousers

type=textCheryl wore sparkly trousers to the Sunday week four results show. The crystal sparkle was just in front (the back of the trousers were plain black). It made for an elegant but casual look.

Thanks to Angela in the comments for locating who made the trousers. They are by Julien MacDonald and cost a staggering £4255!

It's been quite hard to find high-street equivalents - not many do sequin trousers, more the silver/satin look.

Cheryl Cole week 4 dress

type=textFor the week 4 live finals Cheryl wore a silver and black dress (nicknamed the "CD" dress because it looks like the bodice is made of CDs - though Simon Cowell refers to it as the "silver discs dress") by the Georgian born designer David Koma (cost £1500). Not sure about this. It looked better on her when she was standing than when she was sitting down (it appeared to overwhelm her at times, and at one point Simon told her to sit back because she was exposing too much!).

Her hairdo was fab though - she really suits the pulled back style.

Update: the dress caused a massive storm - and put David Koma on the map. His clothes sold out, and a month later, Beyonce was wearing one of his dresses for one of her shows. This is the dress that Cheryl is remembered for in 2009.

Cheryl Cole live finals week 3

type=textCheryl looked fantastic this week in a classic floor length one-shouldered gown. This gown too was from Versace Atelier but unlike the Versace items in weeks 1 and 2, this one really worked. (This dress has also been worn by Penelope Cruz, but I think it looks better on Cheryl)

I wonder if Cheryl is being lent these gowns, they are way too expensive for everyone apart from billionaire's wives, and the Coles are not in that category.

Her hair looked fantastic too, with a curl left down on the right to balance the one-shouldered dress, and all held together with a jewelled hairband from the Jenny Packham bridal collection

Cheryl Cole Jewelled Hairband

type=textCheryl stunned everyone in last years X-Factor (2008) when she accesoried her elegant beehive with a piece of jewellery.

How did she do it? Well the Jewellery is attached to a hairband, which holds it in place.

This is a great look for any elegant occasion where you have your hair swept up and wish to add some sparkle

Cheryl Cole in Versace in second live final

type=textCheryl Cole wore a short red dress by Versace Atelier for the second live X-factor finals.

The dress was made from red discs and had an unusual structured skirt, which was very artistic. The colour was great, but I'm not sure the balloon skirt flattered Cheryl. It was a very odd silhouette

Cheryl Cole wardrobe for the first live show 2009

type=textCheryl wore a gold dress to the first live show. The bodice looked lovely (see below), and the gold colour suited her, but the skirt looked transparent as she walked out onto the stage - the light was shining right through it. I was only able to get a quick screen-shot of it (see right) - clearly the cameras pulled away as soon as they realised.

Perhaps not the best choice of dress for a TV stage that is lit brilliantly from all angles.

The dress is by Versace Atelier

Cheryl Cole in Marrakech

type=textIn the Marrakech part of X-factor (where the judges pick their final three to mentor) Cheryl was pictured wearing a gorgeous flowing black evening gown with geometric detailing on the bodice (see photo for the bodice).

The gown is by Matthew Williamson

Cheryl Cole Marrakech hairband

type=textOn the second day at the judges house at Marrakech, Cheryl Cole wore a very beautiful bronze hairband with intricate patterning (see picture) and a necklace of red beads, with a low key make-up.

The bronze hairband is by Deepa Gurnani and the red beads she is wearing are by DAY Birger et Mikkelsen

Cheryl Cole birthday X factor episode

type=textWhile filming the audition part of X factor, Cheryl Cole celebrated her 26th birthday.

The orange skirt she's wearing is from the Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 collection. The purple blouse is by Alexander McQueen. Not sure I like purple on her.

Cheryl Cole Jewelled Matthew Williamson Dress

type=textAt the auditions Cheryl also wore a short Matthew Williamson dress with a jewelled "Egyptian" bib, that made her look young and hippyish. Her hair looked great too - natural and flowing.

It's been reported that Matthew Williamson has lent Cheryl the dresses for the show (knowing that she will bring great publicity to the brand).

In my opinion this is the best outfit she wore in the 2009 X factor season

Cheryl Cole dangling earrings

type=textCheryl likes her dangling earrings. The earrings in the photo right are by BexRox.

(The white draped blouse she is wearing is by Vanessa Bruno and she's picked up the trend for plaits in her hair-do)

Cheryl at Bootcamp in Philip Lim skirt

type=textCheryl wore another Philip Lim item in the X Factor bootcamp episode - a grey and blue check "scooter" skirt.

Cheryl cole in Alexander McQueen blue and white tunic

type=textCheryl was spotted wearing a white and blue Alexander McQueen "crystal" tunic dress with skinny white jeans at the auditions.

The tunic dress costs a staggering £1415! I am not sure if she bought the dress or was lent it (we know she is being lent clothes to wear for the show by Matthew Williamson).

Blue doesn't really suit Cheryl (she looks her best in warm colours - gold, yellow, orange, dark green, tan), but being extraordinarily beautiful, she still looks good.

Cheryl Cole Lolipop Tibi Dress

type=textDuring the auditions she also wore a sleeveless 60's inspired "lolipop dress" by Tibi - see picture - (which sells for £260 for those interested in these things).

The bright colours really suited her and gave her a youthful feel

Cheryl Cole X Factor clothes audition 4

type=textCheryl wore an unusual stripy skirt on the fourth audition show, with a pleat in front. The skirt is by Australian designers Camilla and Marc Jordana, and retails for £295.

Unfortunately, none of our high street stores have anything like it, but I will be keeping my eyes peeled.

Cheryl Cole X Factor Outfits Audition 2

type=text

We saw some outfits from last week, but also a new look for Cheryl: her hair upswept Audrey Hepburn style, in a dark green pinafore dress with a delicate gold lace blouse underneath with a ruffle at the neck.

Cheryl Cole Multicolour Philip Lim Dress

type=textIn the audition episode of the X Factor 2009, Cheryl wore a selection of bright multicoloured patterned dresses, in various colours - see picture of her in a Philip Lim playsuit (which cost £455) in yellow, orange, green and grey, which made her look chic, young and fun at the same time.
