Where did chess come from?

Chess entered the world being played as a similar game to the modern variation in India around the 6th century. The early childhood of chess featured modern pieces such as the Knight, Bishop, Pawn and Rook. The Rook or Castle towered over the board as the most powerful piece until the introduction of the Queen in 15th century Europe. The Chess Board

Understanding a Chess Board

The chess board is divided into 64 equally sized squares as an 8 by 8 checkerboard. Each player places 16 pieces on opposing sides of the board, eight pawns, two each of knights, rooks and bishops, with one queen and king. The order is based on the white player's pieces, being placed on the row closest to the individual player, from the white's left, first the rook, then knight, bishop, queen, king, bishop, knight and rook. The pawns are placed on the second row from the player towards the opposing player. The black player mirror's the
white player's pieces, including placing their queen in the same row as the white queen.

The Goal of a Chess Game

The goal of the game is to threaten your opponent's king piece until there is not a direction that the king can move where it is not possible to capture it
with another piece. This situation is called checkmate. Threatening your opponent's king with capture is called check. To capture a piece, you must simply move your piece to occupy the opposing piece's square, assuming the move is allowed according to your piece's capabilities.
