Excersise your mind!
I created this lens to share my enthusiasm of chess with the rest of the world. Chess is one of the most spectacular sports (yes I said sport!) that anyone can play. Just to give you an idea of exactly how complex this sport is let me put it into perspective for you. There are more possible chess moves than there are atoms that exist in the entire universe! There are more possible chess moves than there are seconds that have elapses since the big bang! When you think about chess is actually quite complex, there are limitless moves to be made on the 64 square board.
There is a lot you can tell about a person based on how they play chess. For one thing chess was usually played by nobility, it was a popular form of entertainment for the higher echelon of society, the sophisticated and the well-to-do. You can tell if a person is patient based on how they move, you can tell if a person is able to view things holistically, you can tell if they are an in depth thinker, if they buckle under pressure, if they have mental stamina to play a long game, if they are risk takers or if they are risk averse, etc. There are tons of things you can tell about someone based on how they play.
The current version of chess we use today evolved around the 15th century however even this evolved from older versions of games with an Indian origin. If you like to know more about the history of chess or just want more information about chess in general then I highly recommend you visit the wikipedia page on chess. This site is even great for going over the rules and learning how to play.
For those of you like me, chess enthusiasts, I highly recommend joining playchess. This is an online chess client that lets you play against other people from all around the world. The great thing about this client is that it also allows you to watch and play with the top GM's in the world. You can watch their online games or you can watch their actual tournament games live on your screen. You have a free 30day trial, after that you are given limited functionality, but you can still play. If you want to have chat ability and the ability to watch the top GM's play then you need to pay a small yearly fee (I think around $30). It's well worth it. For those of you are interested in what is going on in the chess world today then you absolutely must bookmark chessbase. This site is the authority on chess news from all around the world. They offer the most accurate and detailed news on everything relating to chess including tournament results (with pictures), articles written by top GM's, etc. I'm sure you will like this site as much as I do.
People always ask me where they can go to purchase chess products such as chess sets, clocks, books, etc. The site I recommend the most for all of your chess needs is chessproducts. This site has everything you need for chess ranging from clocks, to collector chess sets such as coca-cola, to tournament chess bags, to even a chess dinner set! They have it all. They even has stuff for kids such as books, software, etc. This site is great for anyone, whether you are a chess master or just a novice learning the game. In fact if you have children (or if you are a child) I urge you to start learning how to play. Almost all of the great chess players in the world all learned at a very young age, and in fact most became GM's in their mid-late teens. When you are younger your brain can form synapses faster, you are able to learn and absorb much more information when you are young.
I hope I was able to provide all of you with some useful information as well as with some useful links for your chess needs. Don't forget to visit chessproducts! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read my lens. I just added a selection of chess videos from the web, these are updated daily so be sure to keep checking for the newest videos; Now go play!
