Chicago Bulls Basketball History

The Chicago Bulls began play in the 1966-67 season, and success was with them from the start. That year they posted the best expansion team record in NBA history!

In the 1970s, the Chicago Bulls were competitive, and even won a division title. Their most famous players during this period were defender Jerry Sloan, forwards Bob Love and Chet Walker, point guard Norm Van Lier, and centers Clifford Ray and Tom Boerwinkle. Towards the end of the decade, however, the team began to loose badly and were in the dumps by the start of the 80s.

By the 1980s, things looked bleak, but that was all about to change in 1984. That year, the Chicago Bulls used their third round draft pick to get rookie Michael Jordan. He quickly became the star of the team, breaking rookie records and inspiring management to rebuild the team around his skills - semi-finals and MVP awards followed as the Chicago Bulls began to climb back up to the top.

In the 1990s, the Chicago Bulls dominated! Winning the Finals three times, and then repeating the three peat! No one could stop them and Chicagoans supported the team with all of their heart as they became the most successful sports team in the city's history.

While the early 2000s brought the retirement of key players and a bit of another slump. Following a pattern, the team began to rebuild again and gradually worked their way back to the playoffs by the end of the 2000s. Today the team is poised to be the best ever! The arrival of stars like Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah have brought a new energy and excitement to the team and its fans!
