I Have A Secret Desire To Run The Chicago Marathon!
The word going hand-in-hand on the street is: "Lance Armstrong and the Chicago Marathon".
As if anyone thinking of trying to keep up with him on a bike wasn't daunting enough!
And let me tell you, running the Chicago Marathon would be a big deal for a non-runner like me.
Here's the thing...
Just because I don't consider myself a "real runner" doesn't mean that I couldn't actually do it, right?
Is this a dream of yours, too?
Well, let's say we do this - let's use this to examine just what it really entails.
By the time we've finished combing over this - with absolutely no sweat by the way - let's hope that we've clear about what it's like to prepare to go through it, without necessarily entering a race.
Then, if we decide that we're still attracted to the idea of running a marathon one - we'll have an idea of what it actually takes to do it.

Doubtfully, we'll shave our heads like Sean "Diddy" Combs did when he ran the Boston Marathon. Or, did he run the New York Marathon?

There won't be any camera crews covering it, just like when Oprah ran her marathon.

Didn't you hear something about Katie Holmes running a marathon not too long ago?
Apparently, you can appear to have everything and still have the desire to conquer your own world by saying that you've done it... you've completed a marathon!

The Hardest Part
The Training. Difficult for Most New Runners Like Me
The "Tip of the Week" from Nike's Coach Jay"Create Program - For the runner who has some experience with racing and wants to achieve a faster finishing time.
The Intermediate 1 program will take you through a phased approach: establishing a baseline, building strength and transitioning to hard workouts.
The first three weeks will focus on mileage build-up, then transition to interval work in preparation for your 5k race."

Well, thank you very much Coach - but this ain't us.

How To Train For A Marathon Or Half Marathon...
And Have FUN Doing It!
Want to learn how to train for a marathon or half marathon?(Yes, we think we do)
Go to a guy named Brad Boughman's MarathonRookie.com website!
I've placed the link below.
This site was created for the runner who wants to experience the thrill and sensational high of
finishing their first 26.2-mile marathon or 13.1-mile half marathon.
(That would be us.)
The secret to successful marathon training and half marathon training lies within staying supremely motivated, training smart & safe, and maintaining proper nutrition.
(We will do our best.)
The days of just "gutting it out" are long gone.
Whether you are training for a marathon or half marathon, it takes a lot more than good old determination and willpower to get you through training and the big day.
Let your mind lead the way, not your body.
"Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."
- George S. Patton, U.S. Army General, 1912 Olympian
Don't be set so much on willpower and determination that you miss out on the big picture of why you want to do this.
(Okay.)
By the way, why do you want to do this?
Don't let yourself off by stopping at your first answer!
Dig deep!
(We're digging. We're digging!)
Why do you want to run a marathon or half marathon?
When you go beyond that first answer, you will begin to realize what is really driving you.
When you learn what is really driving you, then you can use that to push yourself through willpower and determination.
You will build the foundation that will get your subconscious mind working for you, not against you. In short, you are in for an incredible experience.
"We are different, in essence, from other men. If you want to win something, run 100 meters. If you want to experience something, run a marathon."
- Emil Zatopek, 1952 Olympic Marathon gold medalist
(Well... you go with your bad self, Mister Smarty Pants Man!)
Whether you're already running more than twenty miles per week or if you haven't even seen a pair of running shoes in ten years, YOU can successfully train for and finish a marathon or half marathon.
Believe in yourself.
(O...kay...)
Once you learn the right way how to train for a marathon or half marathon, you will begin to believe, then you will realize your goal.
How to train for a marathon?

Runner & Non-Runner Feedback
C'mon... give it your best shot.
Tell me about your attempts at running or how much you run - for real.
Or, tell me about your desire to be a runner and why you can't, don't or won't run. Thanks.
PS Well folks, no more running for me! I had an arthroscopic procedure because I was in a lot of pain (no cartilage, it was down to bone-on-bone). I tried Synvisc injections which worked at first, but eventually my body rejected it. I tried... EVERYTHING to save my poor old knee. In late January 2010, my knee was "put to pasture". And, although the only physical exercise my Sport's Medicine doctor, Dr. Thomas Perkins of The Institute For Athletic Medicine at 937 North Opdyke Road in Auburn Hills, Michigan 48326 (248) 373-7600, sanctions is bike riding, swimming, and walking. I'm feeling fantastic, doing exactly what he said to do. I strongly urge you to see a Sport's Medicine specialist for injuries involving your knee(s) or shoulder(s). In my opinion, they're the best. Tell Dr. Perkins that Carlo (that's me) sent you. And no, I don't get anything for it. He's just a cool guy.
