Beverly Hills Chihuahua

Chihuahua is the capital city of the Mexican state of Chihuahua, but it's also a breed of dog, the smallest in the world.

This is my tribute to all the brave Chihuahuas out there:

They have the most personality, are very loyal to their owners, are smart and protective and last but not least - Chis are very loud and can sound really scary when they think there's something threatening out there.

On top of that, as they have just proved in Beverly Hills Chihuahua film, they are also talented, photogenic and courageous actors.

'Sotelo, host of the popular "Piolín por la Mañana" radio program on KSCA-FM (101.9), has a small part, joining a cast that includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Eugenio Derbez, Piper Perabo and the voices of Edward James Olmos, Cheech Marin and Plácido Domingo, who lends his operatic tones to the character of Monte, the regal leader of a lost tribe of Chihuahuas inhabiting a ruined city. Plus, there's scores of trained dogs, a number of them rescued from animal shelters on both sides of the border.

[The actors discuss what it was like to record their speaking parts.]

Garcia: Drew and I did all our scenes together, you know, actually opposite one another. And they recorded us at the same time, they had cameras on us at the same time, I guess to look at your sort of facial expression, your mouth and stuff. Then they assembled the movie, and then we got a chance to come back in and sort of like improvise to picture. It really became a nice collaborative process, the script kept getting funnier . . . . Help for homeless pets donations

On Friday night my friend Linda and I were driving home on a pretty busy road. All of a sudden a tiny puppy appeared on the side of the road, staring at the approaching headlights of our car with its big, sad eyes. It was too dark to tell the breed but it was long haired, black and white and obviously scared.

We stopped a few yards further down the road and turned around to save the dog. Sadly, although only seconds passed since we first spotted the terrified lost pup, we found it on the opposite lane, killed. Someone ran it over...

I have no idea if this wandering little one was a runaway or a homeless pet. All I know is that there are a lot of pets roaming around for whatever the reason and if you can save a single life by donating some of your money to homeless pet charity - it's all worth it, isn't it?

Thank you.

The mission of First Coast No More Homeless Pets (FCNMHP) is to eliminate the killing of dogs and cats in our community through free and low-cost spay and neuter programs.
