Taking Care Of Your Chihuahua Puppy

Congrats on your newborn pups! Now you will definitely need some aid in taking care of your pups. If an adult Chihuahua is fragile by nature, then its pups would definitely require extreme delicate care. So, as a good and responsible Chihuahua owner, it is important that you have some basic knowledge on taking care of your Chihuahua puppy if you want your pups to grow up strong and obedient just like their mama.

If you want to start dog training on them, then you got to start early. Just remember that in the midst of the training; never ever hurt your puppy.

If you want your puppies to love, respect and obey you, than you got to prevent yourself from hurting them. A new puppy would want to feel safe and if you punish him heavily, he will be frightened to obey you.

At the same time, if you have kids in the house, remind them not to hurt the new pups. This will only tempt these pups to bite you in their defense.

You probably see how Scooby Doo is crazy over Scooby Snacks. This trick works for all dogs and pups. This trick helps to reinforce your new puppy's good behavior.

Good behaviors such as sitting when told to, peeing outside and not barking in the house would definitely deserve a simple praise or a doggy treat. Try to give food in return for a good behavior as puppies usually learn easily when food is involved.

However, in the midst of random doggy treats and daily food, remember not to over feed your new puppy. These Chihuahua puppies are so adorable that we tend to over feed them.

To ensure that your pup is in good shape, make these pups exercise. Since Chihuahuas are very small, exercises can be done at the comfort of your own home. You can do simple exercises like making him catch the ball, or just keep him active.

Do take note that different breeds have different kind of exercises requirement. So, do check it out with your veterinary surgeon about the various exercises that is suitable for your Chihuahua puppy.

Remember that you should train your new Chihuahua puppy ASAP. Do be consistent with your training efforts and just be patient! Your puppy needs time to adapt to a new kind of environment. Just do not start yelling at them. Patience, my friend, is a virtue.

If you manage your training well, your Chihuahua puppy will be very well behaved and it will be able to socialize with people with great ease.

Just like children, the puppies are easier to mould when they are young. You should start training your puppy within the period of 16 weeks from birth.

So, as a Chihuahua owner, it is your responsibility to make your dog accustom itself into the society. Mishaps might happen in the midst of the training, but don't give up easily and give the Chihuahua chances.

Be gentle, and it will definitely grow up to be a well-liked and endearing house pet.

3 Things You Need To Do For Your Baby Chihuahua

Your baby Chihuahuas are coming home and the least you could do is to prepare for it. Just like how you would welcome a newborn baby, the baby Chihuahuas deserves the same kind of attention too. It is necessary for you to get your family members prepared in welcoming the new Chihuahuas so that they are able to feel comfortable in their new home. Here are the 4 things you must do to give your new family members a warm welcome.

#1 Check out for high surfaces that might injure the baby Chihuahua, as it will get more adventurous as time flies by. Just like other animals, Chihuahuas love to explore the house. It likes to perch on high places while surveying its surroundings. As the baby Chihuahua is very fragile, it will be severely injured when it jumps off high places.
So, ensure that you make the home safe for the baby Chihuahua.

You can do so by making a ramp that leads to its favorite lookouts or nesting spots.

Shift your furniture such that the Chihuahua is not able to access the dangerous places. It is better to restrict him from entering certain areas so that you are able to keep him under your nose and he will less likely be injured.

Do this while he is still a baby, so that you would not have problems later.

#2 Toys are a must for the baby. Head to any pet shop and you will be treated to endless doggy toys. Most toys are suitable for all breeds of dog. Stuffed animals and fleece-type toys are just some of the more popular toys for your baby Chihuahua.

Just remember to check that no part of the toy can be pulled out or swallowed.

If you catch your baby Chihuahua chewing on your sofa, then you are most likely to be blamed. Chew bones are dogs' personal favorite and every dog should have one. It is just like the teething ring for babies. Some chewing exercise won't hurt, will it?

#3 Chihuahua training differs from training other breeds of dogs because of the small size of the dogs. Gentle handling is especially important with toy breeds. Gentle handling works with most dogs, but is especially important with Chihuahuas.

Housebreaking a Chihuahua puppy should start early, but not too early. The puppy must be physically capable of controlling elimination. Many owners choose crate training as a fairly quick way to help puppies learn to control elimination. Crate training confines the puppy in a fairly small area and the dog will usually try not to foul the nest. Watch your puppy closely and you can usually tell when it's time to whisk the pup from the crate to an appropriate spot. Just a few days of intense effort can be all it takes for house breaking a Chihuahua puppy.

Enjoy your new pup!

My chihuahua gave birth to a litter of 4 Chihuahua-Maltese mix puppies recently and they are doing great. However, there's a staircase leading to the basement and I'm afraid if they might fall into it and hurt themselves. Unfortunately, I can't block the outer railing so the puppies can't enter.
And also, the only one who is at home during the day is my aging grandmother who has back problems. What should I do to prepare myself for the days to come?

You can either choose to ignore, interrupt or to redirect its behavior. By ignoring its behavior, it will come to realize that what it did is not acceptable by you. Raising Your Chihuahua Pups The Right Way

Raising Your Chihuahua Pups The Right Way

Chihuahua pups are actually a type of breed of dog that is named after the state in Mexico. While why they are named after that state is quite dubious, there seemed to be a connection with the dog and the state in Mexico as the first few progenitors of the Chihuahua were found there. As dogs, they are known to be one of the smallest size dogs in the world, with the biggest ones in the world growing as high as 15 inches in height.

Popularly known as handbag dogs, many women owners of the dog are often seen placing their dogs in their handbags. Now when you do take care of this dog, you need to know its characterisations. Chihuahua's are known for their devotion, their fierceness in any situations and their most striking and famous personality.

They are one of the more curious dogs in the world and are highly inquisitive. Any sound, any movement under a rug or any disturbance in the house and they are up on their feet looking for the source, or if they cant, they will be barking to no end till that something comes out and shows itself. They also are a breed of dogs known as 'burrowers.'

This means that they like to hide and snuggle under blankets, bed sheets, quilt covers, large shoes and even mats in the house. Owners should always look out for unusual bumps on the furniture or on the floor, as more than one Chihuahua has been reported to be injured by their own owners who had no idea that they were there in the first place. Also, when you do raise these

Chihuahua pups, you must understand that many owners report that it is not suitable for you to have young children or infants around. This is because they are highly excitable and will bite when disturbed or alarmed. While their bites are not lethal, their teeth are quite sharp and can cause bleeding when it comes to young children who come in contact with them. Also, younger children and infants tend to want to maul these little puppies or even hit them out of fun, and these dogs do not react well to these situations. Keep them either in a separate part of the house or under constant supervision.

Families are not advised to keep Chihuahua; not unless their children are above the age of 7 or 8. Health wise, you need to keep constant care of your dog as they are known to fall prey to sickness and disease like epileptic fits and even seizures. This is due to their neurological and physical make up. Regular checkups are necessary and good nutrition will ensure that you prolong their doggy life spans. Also, they can be hypoglycaemic and have very low blood sugars, so again, constant trips to the vets will really help their longevity.

These dogs are known for their friendliness and their devotion to their owners as well, so once you start raising your Chihuahua pups the right way, you will be able to enjoy their company for much longer.
