ETHAN'S WEBSITE
This site is dedicated to my beautiful, inspiring children. To my Ethan who is a Mighty Warrior. To Gabbie who is our healing balm and to our Sophie who is beautiful and restores our joy. She lights up our world. I am truly blessed to be their mom.

Leukemia is a cancer of the white blood cells. Acute leukemia is a rapidly progressing cancer that affects mostly cells that are immature. These immature cells cannot carry out their normal functions. About 3,970 new cases of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) are diagnosed each year in the United States. Children are most likely to develop the disease, but it can occur at any age. Acute lymphocytic leukemia may be called by several names, including acute lymphoid leukemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

ALL results from an acquired (not inherited) genetic injury to the DNA of a single cell in the bone marrow. The disease is often referred to as acute lymphoblastic leukemia because the leukemic cell that replaces the normal marrow is the (leukemic) lymphoblast. The effects are: 1) the uncontrolled and exaggerated growth and accumulation of cells called "lymphoblasts" or "leukemic blasts," which fail to function as normal blood cells and 2) the blockade of the production of normal marrow cells, leading to a deficiency of red cells (anemia), platelets (thrombocytopenia), and normal white cells (especially neutrophils, i.e., neutropenia) in the blood.

Ethan was diagnosed(dx) with ALL on 4-29-05. He had been running a temp around 99. for about two weeks. He also had a little congestion and cough. It seemed like nothing unusual. It seemed like just a common childhood cold. But then I started noticing that he looked pale. His finger tips and lips and toes would look blue when he played. So I took him to his pediatrician. At first Dr. Castor thought that same thing I had. Then he looked in Ethan's eyes and said he was anemic. He ordered blood drawn, and the results were SEVERE ANEMIA. His H&H was 4.8/14.2 ; Normal hemoglobin is over 11.2.&normal hematocrit 33-44. They ran test and sent us to a hemotologist/oncologist and she dx Ethan with ALL. The next year following was hard. Lots of fevers and neutropenia LOTS of hospital stays. One landing him in ICU with an apparent sepsis. He stayed there for a month on a vent. When he finally recovered he had brain damage. The last year we have spent most all of our time in therapy, just trying to get our baby back. He is my SuperHero! ;

Normal Blood Counts:

wbc 5.0-15.5

rbc 3.70-5.00

hemoglobin 11.2-14.3

hematocrit 33.0-44.0

platelets 150-400

granulocytes 23.0-54.0

HUNTER'S WEBSITE
Hunter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on December 20, 2003, at the age of 18 months. She underwent 2 years and 28 days of chemotherapy, finished treatment on January 17, 2006, and enjoyed 2 months of life off-treatment. We were devastated to learn on March 20, 2006, that she had relapsed in her spinal fluid.

She began chemo again on March 21, 2006 and achieved a second remission on April 18, 2006. And now she is enduring another two years of much harsher chemo as well as cranial radiation, to make sure that she stays in remission for good this time.

She finished her 2nd round of chemo on June 24, 2008 - a day after turning 6. We are loving life off-chemo right now. :)

Please feel free to sign the guestbook... we LOVE seeing your messages! It's always nice to know there's someone out there thinking of her. I will be printing all the messages out to include in her Survivor's Scrapbook.

STATISTICS

DID YOU KNOW THESE FACTS:

DID YOU KNOW?
From Jacob's Site: http://www.caringbridge.org/fl/jacob/

In the U.S. almost 3000 children die from cancer
each year.

Cancer is the number one disease killer of
children.

In the past 20 years only one new cancer drug has
been approved for pediatric use.

Only 3 percent of the budget from the National
Cancer Institute goes towards Pediatric Cancer
Research.

September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness month,
which nationally goes largely unrecognized.

The government recently cut the budget for
Childhood Cancer Research.

14,000 children will be diagnosed this year with
cancer.

Currently there is between 30-40,000 children being
treated for cancer in the US.

As a nation, we spend $14 BILLION per year on the
space program, but only $35 MILLION on childhood
cancer research per year

"YOUR NAME" BY PHILIPS, CRAIG & DEAN

THIS INSPIRES MY HEART - HOPE IT DOES YOUR, TOO!!!

"Your Name" by Phillips, Craig, & Dean

In this music video, I used the "Your Name" song by Phillips, Craig, & Dean. The video contains the many names of God, as well as a picture to go with the name. It really shows how amazing and indescribable our God is. May He bless each person who watches this video. Enjoy! Thank you to everyone who has commented about the picture at 2.51, giving the impression of "PWND" with Jesus on the cross. I am well aware of this and am currantly fixing the problem. Please do not send anymore messages involving this matter, as I am aware of it. Thank you so much for your concern! God bless. DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THIS SONG OR ANY OF THE PICTURES

WHY IS JOHN316 MY USER NAME?

JOHN 3:16
  • "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life."

WOW - this verse says it all! God was willing to give His only Son to die on the cross for our sins, so that each of us would have the opportunity to accept Jesus into our hearts & accept the free gift of salvation. We just have to ask Him! If we ask Him & believe with all our hearts - He promises us a home with Him in heaven when we die. It's so easy that even a child can accept this gift. If you're reading this & accept Jesus into your heart - please sign my guestbook & let me know!

    God Bless You!
    Much Love - Stacey
