'Back to the Future 2'
Quite possibly, one of my favourite films. Largely, due to the 'radical' narrative; engaging performances of Lloyd and Fox; and the abundance of technological gadgets on display.Personally, the thing which did it for me, was the vision of the future. I loved the fact that this film seemed to make half of this technology just around the corner from where we were at during the 90s. Unfortunately, I was so wrong. Those hover boards never did take off (pardon the pun!). However, on the flip side, I love how cool this film was and still is and especially the excitement and opportunity that it exudes. In my opinion, this film was miles ahead of the game and a real landmark in my childhood.
How was the 90s for you?
Overrated or just golden? Have your say dude!
The Untouchable... MC Hammer's 'U can't touch this'
Ill-fitting attire, blinding fashion - not for the headache-prone!
I just wondered where he got his inspiration for those baggy pants/trousers. It would be like someone now saying: "I'm going to wear a curtain round my head and see if it catches on". I don't think so. However, thank you Hammer for the out-there 'style' and strangely addictive songs!
Hammer or Ice - you vote!
Clash of the Rappers
Which Rapper ?

Vanilla Ice - was just so cool that he was frozen solid!
MTF-briguy says:
Between the two..Vanilla Ice had my vote!
Studentz says:
Vanilla Ice of course!
Ramkitten says:
I can't say I was particularly a fan of either one, but definitely MC more than Vanilla.
You can't touch MC Hammer!

MC HAMMER MC HAMMER TO LEGIT THE MC HAMMER STORY =D
TravelingRae says:
MC Hammer was entertaining and didn't make my skin crawl.
janeaustengirl says:
I was so sick of heavy metal by the time Hammer came out...so I will say MC!
darciefrench says:
Uhhhhmmm... neither rapper appeals to me -:)
kab says:
I saw MC Hammer on Oprah a couple weeks ago. He's still cool!
Action Man
Just don't make him look up!
Every boy's dream - the all round toy action hero (complete with adjustable eyes!). I spent hours preparing the action men for their missions. Dressing them up ready for duty. Exploring the vast frontiers of the somewhat humble garden. Action man, for me, really represented fun and adventure. Also, it symbolised the power of imagination. Sadly, it seems as if imagination (to kids) is like a lost mythical creature these days... Rad language & mutant turtles coming out of sewers!
Vivid, colourful and 'gnarly' language. TMNT really appealed to my imagination. On reflection, very laughable now; however, when they made the cartoon into a film, I remembered feeling quite scared! Yet, curiosity caught the better of me and I managed to see it at the cinema.Over-sized turtles, pizza, rats, and a nasty man in a mask. What more would a young boy want from a film?
90's Lingo
Conversing 90's Stylee!
"Cowabunga"
An exclamation of rejoice from the early 1990s. Usually uttered by teenagers wearing neon colors. Brought to popularity by the ever-so-famous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Example:
Leonardo: The pizza just got here!
Michaelangelo: COWABUNGA dude!
"Bodacious"
Prodominately used during the 80's and early 90's, bodacious is a combination of the words bold and audacious. To be bodacious is to be:
impressive, awesome, brave in action, remarkable, prodigious.
Example:
"Ted, you and I have witnessed many things, but nothing as bodacious as what just happened."
"Radical"
A word used by people over the age of 30 in an attempt to sound cool, usually resulting in the opposite.
Example:
Jim: (to friend) Hey check it out I got a new snowboard.
Jim's mom: (overhearing conversation) Yeah its totally radical.
Jim: OK you can go away now.
What was that all about?
Although I never had one of these rather special t-shirts, I always remembered thinking (at the time) they were quite cool. I supose during the 90s they were at home with all those garish colours that were prevalent: Ghostbuster's slime, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles etc.I think the real issue was that they stopped working very prematurely. Usually they were killed in the washing machine on high temperatures - poor Hyperglows!
But glorifying your sweat patches? Come on, that isn't pleasant is it?
Tram lines
Keepin' those hair follicles fresh with Vanilla Ice!
Maybe it was the naughty kid in your class who had tram lines. The problem was - your mum wouldn't let you have them! She would say that it would make you look rough or like a thug! You didn't care, you wanted tram lines and possibly, like me, experimented with the electric clippers. To your own dismay (and your parents') you came out looking more like a half-sheared, urban sheep! I think that was a metaphor for society in there...Tram lines were the seriously in thing! I guess you couldn't get more cooler than Vanilla Ice championing them too. But where is he now?
Re-live the glory
Back to the classics...
90's Nutshell
To conclude, throughout the 90s we saw many technological changes and influences within the media, especially cinema. We saw a lot of horrendous fashion and equally we listened to a vast array of terrible music. Despite all this, we managed to pull through without machines taking over the world or MC Hammer taking over as President... Ramble & reminisce about your youth
What do you remember about the 90s and your childhood?

- I remember the CD player coming out. I used to wear through my cassettes rewinding them to listen to one song so the idea of a medium where I could hit a button to get to the song I wanted without wearing anything out was very exciting. Thanks for the bit of nostalgia. :)

- The 90's were a blur. I hated the music. But the 2000's have not been much better. Seems that good eras of music are history.
