The Mission of the
Leave No Child Behind Movement.
As we enter the 21st century, America's strength reflects our courage, our compassion, our hard work, our moral values and our commitment to justice. Today we can extend the American dream of our forefathers and foremothers to every child and family. We have the know-how, the experience, the tools, and the resources. And we have the responsibility as mothers, fathers, grandparents, and concerned and sensible people across the country.

We can build a nation where families have the support they need to make it at work and at home; where every child enters school ready to learn and leaves on the path to a productive future; where babies are likely to be born healthy, and sick children have the health care they need; where no child has to grow up in poverty; where all children are safe in their community and every child has a place to call home - and all Americans can proudly say "We Leave No Child Behind."

Our mission and vision in the months and years ahead is to do what it takes to meet the needs of children and their parents by building on the strengths and sense of fairness of the American people, learning from the best public and private ideas and successes, and moving forward to a renewed commitment to all our children.

Building on the best practices and recognizing that children do not come in pieces, but in families and communities, the comprehensive Act to Leave No Child Behind gives the President, Congress, state and local officials and all Americans the opportunity to:

Make sure that there is quality child care and Head Start for all eligible 3- and 4- year olds so that parents can work and children can go to school ready to learn.
Lift every child from poverty; 50% by 2004; 100% by 2010.
Ensure health coverage for all of America's uninsured children.
End child hunger through the expansion of food programs.
Additional funding to strengthen our education system by improving teacher training and quality, increasing public school accountability, reducing class size, and modernizing school facilities.
Provide every child safe, quality after-school and summer programs so that children can learn, serve, work, and stay out of trouble.
Ensure every child has a place called home in decent and affordable housing.
Help to ensure that more children are in safe, nurturing, and permanent families. The Act would extend support to families before they suffer family breakdown and would help encourage permanency for children who cannot safely stay at home.
Ensure families leaving welfare the support needed to be successful in the workplace, including health care, child care, education, and training.
The estimated $75 billion annual investment for the Act to Leave No Child Behind would ensure basic investments in our children's health, education, social development and security in their homes and communities. This investment equals less than seven-tenths of one percent of the nation's Gross Domestic Product in 2003. This is also less than the tax giveaway for the top one percent in the 2001 tax bill when fully phased in.

SOS Children is a charity helping children with absolutely nowhere else to turn. It is a charity which stays long after the TV cameras have left, and has more than fifty years of achievements as a children's charity. Today, nearly a million children worldwide directly benefit from SOS and around 60,000 depend entirely on SOS for a home, family and future.

SOS Children supports children in the community with "home support" for child-led families (where the parents have died of HIV-AIDS), medical care, food security projects, schooling and training, trauma counselling (for

Individually You Can Make A Tremendous Difference
In The Life Of A Child. Collectively We Can Change The World

Did you realize that an estimated 1,000,000,000 (one billion) people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition? That's roughly 100 times as many as those who actually die from these same causes each year.

About 24,000 people die EVERY DAY from hunger or hunger-related causes. This is down from 35,000 roughly ten years ago, and 41,000 twenty years ago. 75%, (seventy five percent) or 18,000 of these deaths are children under the age of five.

750,000,000 Hungry Children exist in or world!

Although these numbers are dramatically reducing each decade, there is still ALOT that needs to be done. If just one child were to die due to hunger, even that is too many.

We each, in one way or another have the ability to make a difference by giving back to those who are less fortunate, either financially or through our physical efforts. This page is dedicated specifically for that purpose, to make a difference in the lives of ill and hungry kids. Through these incredible and caring children's charities, you will be empowered to make a much needed difference in ways that you may not have previously been aware.

Each of the organizations (Children's Charities) below allows you the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child in a number of ways. Each of these non-profit Children's Charities makes a focused and specific effort in improving the lives of children all over the world.

If you feel led to do so, please review the following life changing opportunities which allow for you to make a profound and positive difference in the lives of ill and hungry kids that so desperately need your help. Giving is such a personal thing, and each needs to give where they feel is most needed.

If children and world hunger are one area that resonates within you, and you feel the urge to assist in doing something about it, you can make the choice to contribute to those ill and hungry kids that are in dire need and desperately need our help by clicking on any link of the Children's Charities listed below that you feel would best fulfill your purpose, and provide the greatest relief.

    Wonderful post.

the lemonade ripple

How one little girl's act of kindness creates a ripple of generosity throughout her small town.
When Caroline watches her disabled friend Shannon struggling with an old, rusty, squeaking, and wobbling wheelchair, she decides to use her grandmother's secret recipe to make and sell lemonade to raise money for a brand-new wheelchair. When the neighborhood kids see Caroline trying to help, they choose to pitch in, too. Some kids look for spare change, while others start a carwash. Seeing the difference all the children make inspires Caroline's grandmother to organize a sponsored paddle race down the river, which gets them enough money to buy Shannon the best new wheelchair available.
