Halloween Party Activity: Build a Scarecrow

long sticks
twine
pumpkins
glue
markers
scissors
glue
paper, or cardboard
Instructions:
You will have teams of children building scarecrows, so give each team a set of supplies. This is a great activity to do outdoors since it's very messy. If you're concerned about the straw in your yard place tarps on the ground before you start.
Give the children a time limit to build their scarecrow. Some adult assistance may be needed.
When the children are finished building their scarecrow set up a panel of judges, or if there are more than two teams, have the teams judge each other.

Halloween Party Activity: Fall Scavenger Hunt
Plan a nature scavenger hunt, help children learn about nature, and have fun at the same time. If you don't have many of these items in your back yard, ask friends and neighbors.Pick teams, decide ahead of time how many teams you'd like to have, and hide the appropriate number of items. Give team members the rules, a list of what to find, and boundaries for searching.
Here is a list of possible items to include in your scavenger hunt. Add additional items if you want.
1. Find a ________ leaf
Have the children find the leaf of a certain tree in your yard, you may want to include a picture of the type of leaf they are supposed to find. Don't have any trees? Borrow some leaves from a neighbor or friend, most people have plenty this time of year.
2. Make a leaf rubbing
Have an area set up for the children to do this. They can use the leaf they had to find for number 1.
3. Get the autograph of a person who's birthday is in October (or any other month you pick)
Have at least one person in mind (someone at the party) who has their birthday in the month you choose, if there happens to be more it will make it even easier.
4. Nut, or buckeye
Hide a few nuts or buckeyes around the search area for the children to find.
5. Pumpkin or gourd
Have a few pumpkins hidden, or in a fall display the children can find or grab.
6. Ear of corn
Again have a few ears hidden, or placed in a fall display for the children to find. Find a local farmer who wouldn't mind to part with a few ears.
7. Find a Fall bloom
Most people will still have a few straggling late blooms, or a pot of mums on hand.
8. Rock with many colors
You can hide some painted rocks, or have them find the most colorful natural rocks they can find.
9. Pine needles, or pinecones
Don't have a pine tree? Borrow some needles or pinecones from a neighbor, or buy some pinecones at a local craft store.
10. Candy
The only problem with candy is, it may not make it to the end of the scavenger hunt, you may have to count wrappers.
11. Trash
Maybe you can get the yard cleaned up at the same time?
12. A Halloween Mask
