We Love Children's Books!

Since my children were born I have been taking them to the library and we have been checking out tons of books, really, we come home with a huge bag full of children's books. I read to them every night and they love it. What a nice way to settle in for the night. Now my oldest is 8 years old and reading by herself. She really loves the chapter books by Barbara Park called Junie B. Jones and Mary Pope Osborne's Books called The Magic Tree House. Now she has gotten into the Dear Dumb Diary Books. My 4 year old now is reading anything with animals in it. Dogs are a favorite with her. We just found Fancy Nancy, those are very colorful and fun to read. I'm trying to get her ready for Kindergarten so I have started picking up one with the alphabet or numbers and shapes. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a classic for that.

I also collect Little Golden Books!

Collecting & reading books from my childhood

When I was little my mother always bought me the Little Golden Books, then they were from just $.25 to $.50. She would read to me at night and I still have them all! My favorite one was always "Boy With A Drum" with the fun phrase "Rat-a-Rat Tat and Rum-a-tum Tum." My kids love that one now too. Little Golden Books always had the best Illustrators like Eloise Wilkens who was my mothers favorite and she made sure she picked out those books to buy. I am still trying to find more of those to add to my collection. Of course now I am paying a lot more than $.25 for them. I have also started picking them up at yard sales and selling them on our eBay Auction site at 2friendstreasures. Any that I already have I will sell to make more money to buy more! If the kids will let me that is. Even as an adult I love to look at the children's books and see the wonderful pictures.

What are 8-10 year olds reading??

What are some good books to read this year?

Looks like the hot book to read for the 2nd to 3rd grade group is Diary of A Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. My daughter brought one home a couple weeks ago. Then I tried to get one for her at the library and they were all checked out. Finally got another one after placing a hold. They are pretty good books. She loves them, great cartoon type pictures too. Easy to read. Fun. I must admit that when she first started bringing these books home with these titles like Dear Dumb Diary and Wimpy Kid I questioned what the heck is she reading but I think the titles really appeal to the kids of that age and makes them want to pick them up and start reading. These authors are pretty smart!

Young Adult Books

Books that even Adults Love To Read!

Ok I must admit I love to read some of the young Adult Books too! I started out with Harry Potter then went to the Twilight Series - Those were great! I'll be looking for books for my girls to read and see something that just catches my eye. Some of them have been the best books I've ever read! One of my recent ones was Inkheart. What a great idea for a book. Then it became a movie! Still waiting to see that, I'm usually disappointed in the movie version but I will check it out. Now I am into the Warrior Series by Erin Hunter. These are a series off books based on clans of wild cats. One house cat named Fireheart decides he want to live in the wild and the Thunderclan cats take him in. The series takes you through the lives of these wild cats. Very interesting. I'm on book 3 and looking forward to all the others. Everyone should give these books a try. Easy read and very exciting.

Let us know what you think!

My 2 sons loved the Golden books also, but their favorite of all time was
    "Good NIght Moon".
I had to buy a second copy as the first one got read too often.
I still have that one and keep it for the future grand kids.
