We Love Books!

My 2 girls wanted to help me create this page so they will each contribute their own section so they can let everyone know what they are currently reading. We love to read and like to recommend books to our friends. We go to the library once a week and check out a huge bag full of books. Its so much fun going through them all. We read together before they go to bed and now that they are 10 & 6 they do alot of reading on their own. They are so excited to have a place to recommend books that they really enjoyed & so am I. Hope you come back and see what new books we have found!

Martina's Suggestions

Since I am 10 now I have alot that I like to read. I love to read Dork Diaries, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and this new book that I am just now reading called, "Eleven". And it is about a boy named Sam who is thinking that 11 is supposed to mean something but what? He is turning 11 so he must find out quickly!!! Read to find out more!!! Now my younger sister is 6 years old and she loves these books, Stuart Little goes to the funhouse, Kisses for Little Bear, Bear Stays Up for Christmas, and Junie B. Jones! And also she is reading books all by herself and she is only in first grade!!!! WOW! She is such a fast learner! Also, you should definitely try some of these books no matter if you are ages 8 through 11 or ages 4-7. You NEED to try these books!!

I also collect Little Golden Books!

Collecting & reading books from my childhood

When I was little my mother always bought me the Little Golden Books, then they were from just $.25 to $.50. She would read to me at night and I still have them all! My favorite one was always "Boy With A Drum" with the fun phrase "Rat-a-Rat Tat and Rum-a-tum Tum." My kids love that one now too. Little Golden Books always had the best Illustrators like Eloise Wilkens who was my mothers favorite and she made sure she picked out those books to buy. I am still trying to find more of those to add to my collection. Of course now I am paying a lot more than $.25 for them. I have also started picking them up at yard sales and selling them on our eBay Auction site at 2friendstreasures. Any that I already have I will sell to make more money to buy more! If the kids will let me that is. Even as an adult I love to look at the children's books and see the wonderful pictures.

What are 8-10 year olds reading??

What are some good books to read this holiday?

type=textDo you want to know some of the good books to read this holiday? Well, here is one that I would like to recomend for ages 8-14. It is a book that I am reading in my school reading group that is called "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen. And it is about a boy named Brian Robesen, who's parents are divorced and he is planning to set off on a plane to go and visit his Dad, but when the pilot of the plane has a heart-attack and dies Brian is left. Alone. In the wilderness with only his hatchet in his belt loop. So how will Brian survive with only one, tiny spare hatchet in a belt loop find out in, "Hatchet!" Also, I am most definiteley recommending Dirary of a Wimpy Kid and Dork Diaries. Diary of Wimpy Kid is about a boy named Greg Heffley who's mom gives him a "Diary" and he uses it as a journal so that it is more "Boyish" and he writes about him and his new adventures in middle school. Dork Diaries is more for girls and is about a girl named Nikki J. Maxwell who writes in her diary ALL of the time but really doesn't want to. I hope you read those books!

Dawn's Current picks

type=textMy favorite Author to read right now is Kate Morton. Her latest book is called The Distant Hours. The jacket says that it is a haunting tale of long-buried family secrets, the origins of a classic children's book, the vagaries of war, and the twists of fate that can bring people together or crush their hopes forever. Her writing is amazing. Keeps you reading from the first page and you dont want it to end. She was recommended to me by a friend. She has two books before this that I really loved too called The Forgotten Garden & The House at Riverton. They are huge books, The Distant Hours is over 500 pages. So be ready to sit down and have a nice read! Its a great one to sit by the fire on these cold winter nights.

Let us know what you think!

My 2 sons loved the Golden books also, but their favorite of all time was
    "Good NIght Moon".
I had to buy a second copy as the first one got read too often.
I still have that one and keep it for the future grand kids.
