My Son had a stroke in-utero.
Hopefully this will let others know that kids have strokes too.
This is our story.Contents at a Glance
What happened?
A synopsis...
A "stroke" (or cerebrovascular accident or CVA) is the clinical designation for a rapidly developing loss of brain function due to an interruption in the blood supply to all or part of the brain. This phenomenon can be caused by thrombosis, embolism, or hemorrhage.[1]
A bleeding brain? but how?
Hemiplegia in children is due to a number of different causes and includes blood vessel disorders (stroke), infection, trauma, tumors, and other rare causes. The most common cause of hemiplegia in children is infant stroke or childhood stroke.
Intraventricular hemorrhage (or "IVH") is a bleeding of the ventricles, where the cerebrospinal fluid is normally located. This is what happened to my son --BEFORE-- he was born.
At birth I noticed a very faint and occaisional twitch to his left eye. Doctors blew me off and said he was sensitive to light. In actuality the hemorrhage was clogging his spinal fluid leaving the brain stem and the pressure was increasing on his brain.
We rushed to Childrens hospital to discover all this one week after he was born, Stunned and dazed we listened to the doctors.
My son is 6 now and can get dressed, ride a bike speak, walk, run, and everything a "normal" 6 year old does.
We are dealing with slight right side motor skill weakness.
We are very lucky that it is not worse, PT and OT continue to assist us in helping him learn to do things when his right side is not strong enough.
Thanks for visiting, for more check the links and store.

- I'm visiting because my mom is a stroke survivor who I've been caring for and stroke is a scary illness. But your story is very enlightening. I never knew stoke could occur in-utero. I wish your son good continued health and progress! Thanks for sharing your story.

- My daughter had a stroke as well. She's 16 months now (diagnosed at 8 months), and has been doing wonderfully since she was diagnosed and her seizures were controlled. Her mom and I have both had our hard times in dealing with this...but our daughter is the most amazing person we've ever met. I wish you the best with your son. Drop me a line if you'd like to talk.
