Chile Pepper Posters

I really like this poster so much that I decided to make it the first poster on this lens. I love to garden and to study gardening, probably because I love to experiment with lots of different foods. This is a great poster because it shows you all kinds of peppers and identifies them for you. Some day I hope to grow every one of these in a single season; I just think that would be so cool.

I think this poster of the smoking hot chile pepper is so much fun. I remember when I was little how I watched the smoke rise from cigarettes when they were sitting on an ash tray, and watching the smoke trail off. This poster reminds me of that very almost magical whisp of smoke, rising into the darkness.

This is such a fun, tongue-in-cheek arrangement of peppers. It kind of reminds me of grade school, with everyone lined up along the wall, getting ready to go to the playground. The purple peppers are like the big kids, and the little yellow peppers are like the little kids. The vase would be the principal, I suppose.

I love the nostalgia of an old tin sign. The proportions are just perfect for over a door. This would be a great piece for a kitchen.

I really like the tension in this piece between the hot red of the chile peppers and the very cool, saturated blue of the background. This piece has such a good energy for me.

I like this piece; the original was drawn with pastels on a chalkboard. I love the way pastels blend; there's something magical about them that reminds me of art shows in springtime.

When I was a kid, I used to see signs like this at houses along country roads where people just put their produce on a card table under a shady tree with a hand made sign. It was always by the honor system; you just took whatever you wanted and put your money in a Mason jar.

I'm really entranced by the warm, sensual nature of this piece with it's feminine curves. It reminds me of abundant harvests and rich, smoky flavors. A very southwestern feeling piece.

I have lived in the desert southwest for a few years, and this piece reminds me of the art I've seen in small cantinas around Santa Fe or outside Phoenix. They always seem to have quaint, handpainted signs with lots of chile peppers in the art.

I chose this piece to be part of this lens because it was so different from the others. The sophisticated collage with the European flair takes the peppers out of their more stereotypical desert southwest and brings them to the more worldly fare of lunch at a Parisian cafe. Peppers are found in so many cuisines around the world they can fit in anywhere.

When I see this piece, I think of my Grandmother's kitchen on a warm afternoon, the kind where there is no agenda and it's just good to be a kid. Grilled corn on the cob, roasted peppers, and homemade peach ice cream round out the day.

This piece is so very reminiscent of the southwest. It reminds me of the old, painted Mexican tiles set in the thick, stucco walls of an old cantina that is somehow cool despite the heat outside.

This piece reminds me so much of dining rooms in the homes of my family and friends in the '50's and '60's. It has that clean, modern feeling that reminds me of the time when you had formal rooms that weren't used every day; they were special.

Much like the painting of the peppers above on the blue background is this great photo of peppers on a blue plate. That deep cobalt blue is like the blue on the courtyard walls of Frieda Kahlo's home, and what a relief they are visually from the desert heat. I love that she was unafraid of color.
