Tai Wu Restaurant

The Tai Wu restaurant on Oxford Road lies just outside the traditional China town boundary and a short stroll from the Midland Hotel yet it is one of the most popular restaurants in the area.
Upstairs at the main Tai Wu restaurant you will usually find throngs of local chinese residents queuing up for the traditional Yam Cha (lit. drink tea). If you plan to visit, get there early as it's extremely popular!
Downstairs, you will find a more western style 'all you can eat' chinese buffet. This is where you will find the spring rolls, duck pancakes, sweet & sour dishes that we are used to from the local chinese takeaway.

The International Buffet Restaurant
New Emperor Restaurant

The New Emperor Restaurant is where you will find many of the areas mature Chinese community enjoying an early afternoon dim sum or Yam Cha (lit. drink tea).
It is a noisy, busy place and I recommend that you get there early as it fills up fast!
If you want to experience the sounds, taste and atmosphere of a traditional Hong Kong restaurant but don't want to spend the air fare, then I recommend that you pay a visit to the New Emperor restaurant.
Chinese New Year 2012 - Year Of The Dragon
There's always plenty to see, hear and of course...TASTE! Bring the kids and let them watch the Dragon and Lion dances. They will be amazed at the exciting kung fu demonstrations while the girls will simply love the traditional folk dances. Stalls will be open from 11am with performances throughout the day from 12-7pm. The fireworks display will take place about 6pm so get there in plenty of time!
Rumour has it that the high pole lion dance performance is going to be the most spectacular so far...don't let the kids miss it.

Pan Asia Restaurant

I'll be honest; the Pan Asia restaurant is one of my favourites in Manchester Chinatown and as the name suggests, they serve a wide variety of dishes from all over South East Asia.
The restaurant is bright and modern while the food is well presented and tasty. Whatever your taste, you're sure to find plenty to satisfy your hunger.
If you are taking friends for their first ever experience of Chinatown, I suggest a lunch at the Pan Asia. They haven't let me down yet!
Shopping In Chinatown

There is a wealth of shops in chinatown, offering everything from chinese cooking essentials through to the more exotic oriental gifts, jewellery and ornaments.
Take your time to browse around. Some of the best stores are tucked away downstairs and are little treasure troves of new and unusual gift ideas!

It is also a thriving meeting place for the active adult chinese who chat loudly over tea.
