Chinchillas are rabbit-sized rodents native to the Andes mountains in South America. Chinchillas are naturally skittish creatures and generally do not like to be held. They are nocturnal animals (sleeping during the day and playing at nighttime), so they might not make the perfect pets for EVERY family. The average life span for the chinchilla is 15 - 18 years. Chinchillas make a variety of vocalizations, including chirps, squeaks, and barks. Chinchillas are very inquisitive and like to chew. They cannot get wet, for they could get pneumonia and die because their fur is SOOOO thick, it doesn't dry if wet. They take dust baths instead. They are very cute to watch when rolling around in grey dust.
