Unique Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (known simply as TCM) is the oldest known medical tradition in the world, going back some 2000 years. Unlike modern Western medical practices, Traditional Chinese Medicine relies on a holistic approach to the human body, taking into account natural surroundings, energy balance, the five elements and bodily fluids.

How Did TCM Evolve into Systematic Medicine Theories?

The history of TCM can be traced to a long series of doctors and practitioners who kept track of their procedures for future generations.
The first of these was set down within the canon of the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang.
Through the subsequent years, as doctors or medical practitioners identified new causes or remedies, they were recorded and eventually developed into the system of Traditional Chinese Medicine known today, which includes several branches and styles.
Core Theory of TCM
Traditional Chinese Medicine draws much of its approach from ancient Chinese philosophies, namely Buddhism and Taoism, which are centered around the idea that all life and nature operate on interconnected levels that can affect one another in good and bad ways.
So, TCM examines both the physical and spiritual state of the individual in diagnosing problems, rather than viewing body parts as separate entities, as in Western medicine.

TCM Physician Feels the Pulse of Patient
Included in the diagnosis and treatment process of TCM are several theories, some of which have now become popularly known around the world.
Yin and Yang (or the balance of opposing forces), the five elements (fire, water, metal, wood and earth), Qi or energy flow and Zang fu theory, which deals primarily with organ function, are all important ideas in the proper practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Each of these theories is comprised of an elaborate set of principles that TCM practitioners use to diagnose and treat patients.

Uncover the Secret of Tong Ren Tang

Tong Ren Tang at Qian Men, Beijing
Tongrentang, or Tong Ren Tang is a Chinese pharmaceutical company founded in 1669, which is now the largest producer of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
The company is headquartered in Beijing, and is engaged in both manufacture and retail sales, operating drug stores predominantly in Northeast China.
In 1669, the 8th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Tong Ren Tang was established in Beijing by Yue Xianyang who served as a senior physician of the royal court of the Qing Dynasty. In 1702, the company relocated within Beijing to the address from which it has operated ever since. In 1723, Tong Ren Tang was appointed the sole supplier of medicinal herbs/herbal medicines to the royal court of the Qing Dynasty by Emperor Yongzheng and remained in that position until the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in 1911.

Classic TCM Works
1.
The earliest and most fundamental composition identified in TCM is the Huángdì Neìjing (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon), probably dating back to 300 - 100 BCE.
2.TCM's second central classical composition, the Shang Hàn Zábìng Lùn ( later divided into Shang Han Lun and Jinkui Yaolue), was written by Zhang Zhongjing during the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD).
3.Zhenjiu zhenzhong jing (Classic of Moxibustion and Acupuncture Preserved in a Pillow) by Huà Tuó.
4.Jìn Dynasty (265-420): Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) by Huángfu Mì.
5.There were noted advances in Chinese medicine during the Middle Ages. Emperor Gaozong (r. 649-683) of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) commissioned the scholarly compilation of a materia medica in 657 that documented 833 medicinal substances taken from stones, minerals, metals, plants, herbs, animals, vegetables, fruits, and cereal crops. In his Bencao Tujing ('Illustrated Pharmacopoeia'), the scholar-official Su Song (1020-1101) not only systematically categorized herbs and minerals according to their pharmaceutical uses, but he also took an interest in zoology.
6.Bencao Gangmù (Compendium of Materia Medica) by Li Shizhen, the most complete and comprehensive pre-modern herbal book (completed in 1578).
